A Scottish Sunday

Somehow in the move all the electrical cables and remotes have got lost. They've been packed somewhere so obvious they can't possibly be overlooked. Problem is neither of us can remember where that blindingly obvious place is. We are without television but have a functioning laptop. This coming weeks #1 task is to find the missing leads.

This media free environment gives us time to observe two plump pigeons who call the garden their home. When we first arrived Sophie would chase them. Now she ignores them and they ignore her. They are completely indifferent to us.

Cornflowers still in bloom in the sheltered spots by the old stone walls. On our six am walk four young deer come bounding across the fields towards us. Sophie is too busy drinking from a puddle to see them as they pass behind her . They must have been within six feet of us.

The peace of Sophie's 'zen' spot on the gravel by the acer is disturbed by a young visitor. She lets out a loud 'harrumph' to make it plain that she'll deal with this interloper as soon as she's recharged her batteries. After all this mornings excitement that may be some time.

I think your cornflowers are wild scabious, judging by the colour and flower head configuration. They are a great wildflower for bees.

Those pigeons seem enormous! Glad to see the links are back!

I have several things in safe places around the Hutch. They usually turn up when not even thinking about them.

A hedgehog!!! That too, a young one. Your garden is blessed. There are lots of pages available online on how to protect and nurture your precious neighbour.

And the 'bright donkey' is actually a mule - lots of horse genes, so possible explanation for the different, albeit amusing, behaviour. I too am delighted to see Angus getting back into routine! YAM xx

I agree the flowers are scabious. Always a late summer joy. Also a joy, the donkey/mule with the lateral thinking capability!
Cheers, Gail.

How could Sophie miss the deer! How lovely to see a hedgehog - and in day light too. At my mother's house we used to see them after dark when they came calling for their supper. They would rattle the plate if she was late putting out their food.
Think, Angus, where did you store your sporran? Could the leads and remotes be in the same place, so that you couldn't lose them? With the Nativity figures?

Coppa's Girl - wouldn't you know it ? The sporrans were among the first things unpacked but the cabling and leads are in a place that is so so obvious it must be right under our noses !

You have a hedgehog and I am so jealous! Wonderful creatures that I shall never see over here in NE. I'll trade you a pushy fat black bear, a couple of skunks and a voracious groundhog for your wee hedgie. Really enjoying seeing your new(ish) vistas each morning and of course, dear Sophie.

On Facebook, I follow a wildlife rescue page located in the UK. They posted a few days ago and were happy to report that they are releasing 20 hedgehogs back to their found locations. I've learned a lot about them by what they post about them. They are endearing little ones, aren't they?

I hope you find your elusive cables and remotes.

Regarding the remotes and cables sadly I am sure you know you will find them as soon as you give up and return from buying some more! Angela

I am still finding things from the last move, 13 years ago. Such a pretty place.

What an exciting collection of wildlife; deer, hedgehogs and seals. Even the pigeons would be enjoyable for me to watch.(I've always loved pigeons.) Maybe next year you'll have a pigeon family.

Good luck cabeling! The least of your worries, but takes on a huge life of its own as frustration builds...

How delightful to discover a creature welcoming group in your garden! I hope we will be seeing the young hedgehog again soon.

It would be amazing if something hadn't been mislaid .

Perhaps buy one generic power cable for your TV and set your cellphone as the TV remote using the remote app probably already on your phone. Once these two tasks are complete the missing box will be found!

I will guess they are in a piece of luggage where all could be stored safely and not get smashed to bits. The brightly colored piece. :)
