Simpler and easier.

Even by Scottish standards the weather is miserable. Overnight another storm has blown in. Perhaps that should read yet another storm has blown in. The power goes off no less than five times. Each time the 'smart' fridge makes a noise like a strangled cat. We didn't know it did this so its disembodied wailing comes as quite a surprise. Each time  Angus gets up, goes downstairs into the kitchen and resets it. Each time he stubs his toe. ' The Font' unhelpfully informs me the fridge can be reset by accessing the ap. You try accessing an ap in the dark in the wee hours! Of course it would help if I could find the phone. GLWT !  On my fifth trip downstairs the security system alarm decides to join in. Angus has got to an age where he can now happily say that things were simpler and easier in the days before intelligent kitchens.

We use a brief interlude in the  rain to head off to the beach for a walk. The sea seems to have carved off another metre or so from the dunes. The Marram Grass that has been planted at great expense provides cover against wind erosion but is useless against exceptional North Sea high tides.

In town a large silver bow has appeared on a doorway. It must be a student house.  Is it a Christmas decoration or a birthday garland ?

We go into the tourist office to pick up tickets for the farewell to the Scotties display. This will take place in the exam hall this weekend. The ladies in the tourist office are having difficulty getting their computer to work so we agree to return later .

Our favourite is the circus Scottie.

Then it's off to the ice cream shop for two punnets of Vanilla. These are wrapped in cling film and then wrapped again in a length of bubble wrap in case the 'smart'  freezer  isn't back to a suitable temperature.

There is something blue in the display case . It is a shade that tells you it is a flavour unknown to nature. Angus has a feeling that these are tastes for a younger and more experimental generation.

This played on the radio. It is strangely beautiful :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdj8FvcXywU

Perfect weather yesterday for tackling the tax form.
But Circus Scottie would cheer up any morning!

All the Scotties are excellent but I agree that the circus Scottie is the winner!
I read somewhere that blue ice cream is a favourite of those under ten years of age - to the horror of many parents no doubt! Bubblecrunch sounds like a suitable name.
How sad the beach looks this morning.

I like the starry-eyed circus Scottie.
Erosion is happening too rapidly on your beach - very worrying.
Thank you for the musical link - delightful.

Coppa G - Yes - bright blue ice cream would set any under 10's toes tapping.

Are whole house back-up generators an option there? Modern life is complicated, but at least I didn't have to go to the back garden to bring in water this morning.

We were so tired of losing power that we had a Generac stand by generator installed a few years ago. Peace of mind for sure.

That piece of music was divine - ta for that. Seeing the Scotties as a pack this weekend, will surely be a highlight! YAM xx

One of the shocks of moving to a new house with new appliances was all the different sounds they make to remind us, or warn us, or perhaps simply annoy us. We've only had one brief power outage here, and the weather is more temperate so that we don't need to worry quite so much how our birds would manage in the heat or cold if the power goes out (two of them are very old). But still I had been looking forward to installing solar panels and a battery in France. That turned out to be far more difficult than we imagined, and the plan has been tabled for the moment. The solar guy actually recommended we just buy a gas-powered generator.

Blue either has an artificial raspberry taste or else tastes like bubblegum. It also leaves one with blue teeth and a blue tongue!

Some gadgets and appliances are definitely too clever for their own good and certainly for me. It's the same with cars IMHO.
That blue ice cream does not look very appealing.

Another thank you for the splendid music. I'm intrigued by the beautiful bow on the door. Perhaps a wedding?

My favorites were Bathing Suit Scottie, RAF Scottie and of course, Billy Connelly Scottie. I hope they raise a lot of money. There is nothing "smart" in my house as I fear I'll never figure it all out! Although a "smart" TV does have some appeal. 61F and crystal clear this morning in Los Angeles, though an "atmospheric river" is due tomorrow. We no longer just have rain...

Don't you love it when appliances start giving you orders!
I have arguments with my expresso machine, and, any day now, expect my car to tell me I am too stupid to drive and to hand off the keys.

Bathing suit Scottie was my favorite.
