The day starts off dry but by mid-morning a powerful Atlantic front brings rain and grey skies. Angus thinks it's a bit like a February day on Tiree. ' The Font ' points out that it's more like an August day on Tiree.
As the rain falls Bob sits in the office with Angus. Sophie joins 'The Font' in a webinar with the Pasadena astrophysicists. The astrophysicists are younger than the astronomers and have more hair. They wear fleeces ( presumably because the air conditioning is ferocious ) and drink from huge Styrofoam cups. What they drink is a mystery. Today's lecturer signals the end of each topic with a staccato " You all cool with that ? ". Before anyone has a chance to respond he's off again. Angus is not cool with any of it. He can't help but notice that the entire class seems to be composed of Chinese teenagers. Sophie is completely engrossed by what she sees on the screen .
In the supermarket Gombo's and Physalis make an appearance. Why these exotic products are suddenly appearing in deepest France profonde is something of a retailing mystery. Dog and master buy a pint of milk.
Huge storms have been ravaging the coast. Thankfully everyone was saved but this video is terrifying : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQPGoubOsWk

Very sensible - you know where you are with a pint of milk...
A few years ago I attended a geophysics conference in San Francisco, where the preponderance of delegates of Chinese appearance was also notable. They looked like teenagers too, but that may have been more to do with my age than theirs. And when faced with a scientific paper with a dozen Chinese authors (not uncommon these days), one is so grateful for digital referencing software...
Cheers, Gail.
PS I believe that Tiree is far from the wettest of the Hebridean islands.
Catching up. So glad the Labradors are back.
My dog seemed extra enthusiastic about drinking from puddles a couple of weeks ago. Thing is he never, ever does that, so after a bit I began to wonder. I was right, no water in his bowl when we got home. Poor boy.
Are the PONs great TV watchers? Leah seems to prefer the adverts
Fleeces have been unnecessary in Southern California the last few days as it has been 87F. Yes, I know...it's an El Nino year.
Are the PON's bi-lingual? Tri- lingual? More-lingual?
More-lingual where it counts. Sophie knows the words breakfast, lunch and dinner in just about every language we can think of.
Coll, it is said, is wetter.
They've no time for tv but Sophie is greatly taken with webinars. Work out that aspect of canine psychology if you can !
Must be the aircon.
That would do it .
No surprises in a pint of milk.
Regarding the video... Yes, terrifying. I do hope the camera was sitting somewhere, not being held by a doofus who didn't run to help.
