Happy Hour.

By seven it's light and Bob is waiting patiently for the days entertainment to begin. The builders will be here in half an hour. The electricians will also be making an unscheduled appearance. Yesterday there was a slight 'incident' involving a morose lad, a light fitting and the fuse box.

Harness on time is a high spot of the day. Way up there alongside mealtimes. Great excitement ensues. Great excitement is a dog owners way of describing chaos. You'd think that after four years the angelic duo might temper their enthusiasm and stand still while the harnesses are put on.

'The Font' is of the opinion the Angus has got to an age where he should dress more 'brightly'. In the rugby store ( where Angus buys much of his clothing ) they are selling trousers in red, white or blue. 'The Font' wonders if Angus should buy a pair of the red ones for our upcoming trip to California. Angus is of the opinion that he's happy to stick with blue - a colour that works well at any age. The red trousers are the sort of thing a Happy Hour crooner in a Palm Desert cocktail lounge might wear. Not even the inducement of 50% off tempts this Scotsman.

I'm with you Angus - red would be definitely too far "Out There"! On the harness subject - we had a scare with Kiwa's (previously repaired) back leg, and spent a sleepless night thinking we were about to have a repeat. I tried Googling/Ebaying and generally phaffing about trying to find the name of that super harness you had for Miss Sophie - what was it, and where did you get it, please. Kiwa has a harness with a 'chest plate' (Ezidog I think is the brand) and she clearly believes it is an instrument of torture, but I can't hold her with just a collar. She stands still, but with a martyred look on her face. Goodies are sooks!

California? Where will Bob and Sophie stay now that the friendly K E N N E L S have closed?

Poor you. Poor Kiwa. The name of the harness is Help Em Up. We ordered it from the UK supplier but they're made in the States. Kim at Golden Pines recommended it to us and I can tell you it saved my back and helped Sophie's recovery move along quickly and smoothly.

This is the website -http://helpemup.com/

We got the type seen on the black Labrador with the additional handle at the back so you can hold up the rear end. We also bought the carrying strap but didn't use it. If you had steps then it would be a useful addition.

Today we are going to see two alternatives that have been recommended by the French teacher.

Angus, you are very wise to resist the red trousers. They are obviously not popular with the conservative gentlemen in France Profonde either, or they would not be selling at 50% discount.
Our little Spaniel X was always so excited when we put his harness on, and would be halfway to the gate before we could fasten it properly !
Now we'll all worry about who will look after the angelic duo when you are in California. Hopefully you have found somewhere equally as good as the other k-e-n-n-e-l-s?

For over a year I have seen men and women, but mostly men, wearing colorful trousers and jeans. They tend to be in faded shades of red/orange/yellow--bright but not neon. A barn red, burnt orange, mustard yellow. I didn't see it when we went north for Christmas. Maybe you need sunshine to wear colors.
At the same time, our burly rugby-fan friends love wearing pastel pink shirts.

For once, I reluctantly conclude that the Font's near bottomless supply of wisdom temporarily ran ran dry in the matter of male trouser colour. Blue is just fine!
Cheers, Gail.

Thank you both, vey much. I'll follow it up and note the results. The long story .... We don't know what happened, but our son rang at 9pm to say Kiwa was in trouble. She had been showered - which she loves - and ran around in her usual "crazy-happy-dog" circles and then went outside into the back garden. She came back in, staggering and unable to put weight on her back leg. What he didn't tell us til the following morning was that she'd then thrown up. They put her to bed in their room, and we were on 'vet call' but, the next morning she was fine, and since then hasn't limped. Of course I had spent the night searching the internet for the harness, and worrying about how they/we would cope with a crated and semi-ambulatory dog with a toddler to contend with! Sleepless night fortunately all unnecessary, but I will make sure I know where to get a harness, incase there is a real need! Needless to say, we love her dearly!
Did she somehow knock her head in the garden - unlikely, there are almost no obstacles... Did she eat something - there are no 'problem plants' and only a very ordinary vegetable garden? One of life's little mysteries!

For the last two summers, the stores here have been pushing red pants. Not very bright red, but lots of knockoffs of Murray's Nantucket Reds. Limited success with the general public. The 93 year old father of my old university roommate who lives in Savannah has worn and continues to wears true red pants. Quite debonair.
I'm sure you would never board Sophie unless her leg was in fine condition, but we'll be worried anyway.

Hope the new K-word places are good and up to standards.
Those "red" trou are sort of orange-y. Sticking with basic blue = smart thinking.

The Songwriter would shudder at red trousers as well. However, I am in the process of knitting him a most colourful fair isle vest and he appears to be quite pleased. We'll see. xx

I vote for the blue pants too! Even in California the red pants would make you stand out! Especially s ince it's a Blue State! (Voted Democratic in November) 😊

No red pants please. White might do in the summer in California though!

I don't believe any male over the age of 6 should wear red pants. I always think "clown pants" if I see someone sporting a pair. And I live in California. Best of luck on finding a new k-e-n-n-e-l.
