Diable.

Here are two pictures of Bob.

There are no pictures of Sophie this morning. The family princess is in the dog house.

'The Font' had prepared a roast chicken. Brined, air dried overnight and then roasted in readiness for lunch. Placed , high, on a kitchen counter to cool.

Quite how Sophie got up onto the kitchen counter is a mystery. ' The Font' claims to have gone out to answer the phone and was gone three minutes, four max. It is presumed Sophie somehow clambered onto a stool then onto the kitchen table before leaping onto the marble counter. Each link in this assumed chain of events is impossible for any dog to accomplish let alone one with two metal knee joints.

The word 'diable'  is being muttered. Sophie has done what any family diva would do and tail waggingly brazened it out. '' I cannot tell a lie. It was my brother that ate it ". Her position on the counter, the remains of the chicken and a greasy muzzle are ignored.

She has been lifted down and we now wait to see what the impact of three quarters of a roast chicken will have on the passage of her day ahead.

Bwahaha...errr, I mean tsk tsk Sophie! Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx (who is grinning at memories of Jasper cat in similar pawsishun and Jade dog sitting pretty beneath the devastation...)

You get a girl bionic legs and then are surprised when she uses them?
Perhaps you need a pantry...with a lock on the door. Or does Sophie secretly have opposable thumbs?

Hopefully, it was a smallish chicken.
Is this the first time you've had a female dog? As many politicians are discovering, females of the species do not always follow orders well and are not as biddable. Plus, they tend to be more territorial.

If there was food on the other side of the door Sophie would find a way in. This girls pursuit of food is truly remarkable.

Ooooooh! The little minx! I would have been so angry I wouldn't have been able to speak to her for at least 24 hours!

I hope she didn't eat the bones, as they can be dangerous. Needless to say, this is knowledge I owe to Cherry, who has been to the vet over the years for chicken bones, grapes, chocolate and a variety of other things that are either poisonous or otherwise dangerous for dogs (I distinctly recall trying to calculate how much cacao might be contained in a cup of mole sauce). PON girls do carry on, however.

Bob looks quite dashing with his carrot!

Yes, this is the first female PON we've had. Bob is essence of tail wagging dog. He would never even consider taking his feet off the ground. Sophie is a different level of creation and has a penchant for climbing any obstacle in search for gratification. The word 'no ' is not in her vocabulary. And you're right she is territorial. Woe betide Bob if he moves into her space in the back of the car.

Sophie's fixation on food must have a psychological root in the 12 weeks prior to us collecting her from the kennels. We can only assume she was starved and has been making up for it ever since.

Or maybe it's just a too clever for their own good PON girl thing. Cherry, at 10, recently learned how to open the trash cans so she can forage freely through the leftovers, and we've had to buy baby locks for the first time in 15 years.

If Sophie was ignored for 24 hours after every act of mischief she's never be spoken to at all !

Trash can foraging hasn't entered her thoughts - yet !

Are you sure she hasn't got a bit of Labrador in there, somewhere?

I think that Miss Sophie spent her recuperation time dreaming up all this mischief and has been waiting for her opportunities. It's one big Mission Impossible movie starring our diva....."Soph". It's like Cher :-)
I feel for the Font, after all I had the dog that licked the Thanksgiving turkey in front of my family gathering.

I know I have told you I was on first name basis with Poison Control at Grady (human) hospital here in Atlanta. Ebony my Labrador, was constantly eating the unthinkable! ! !

Hey Bob! Your parents love you BEST!!!!! Enjoy!

Clearly a best day ever for Sophie (unless there are digestion consequences)! Have you considered that Sophie may have a secret pair of wings enabling her to access the countertops?

Angus said...

Wings and horns !

At least it was just chicken. I had a Cavalier who ate rocks. She scarfed them up on walks, a couple of times had to be emptied via vet surgery. It's a psych issue, apparently, the way some horses crib.

Sorry, had to laugh. And it was all hers...no having to share with the oaf of a brother.

Hahaha Well done Sophie!! Easily one of your best days girl!!

We always love seeing photos of Bob. You look happy with your carrot Sir.

Brilliant! We too having thieving dogs for whom countertops are no barrier. On one occasion it was our wedding cake, brought home from our wedding to be shared among those who could not be there on the day. The dogs obviously felt they too should have their share.
