44 degrees.

Difficult to say which was worse. Wednesday was in the high 30's but with a 50 mph wind that blew all day. Yesterday there was no wind but it hit 44 degrees in the late afternoon. This morning we're up and about at five so that the PONs can get a couple of long walks in the pre-dawn freshness. Sophie's order of business is unchanged. She is determined to glare  at the Coots and the Moorhens. She then rushes back home to monitor the wrens and sparrows nesting in the wisteria above the front door.

Bob sits on the gravel and  guards. Today he has a small grey ( and very muddy ) companion to help him. He and Angus discuss the Democrat debate and how feisty Harris was and how reasoned Buttigieg sounded. The others not so much.

By nine it will be uncomfortably warm. By ten the tarmac will be paw scaldingly hot .

Welcome to the new climate change normal.

Angus fills up the PONs paddling pool with water.

So starts a day of debilitating heat with two dogs who simply can't understand why their routine is out of kilter.

Wow, 44 degrees is just TOO hot, for men or dogs or even moorhens! I also thought Harris and Buttigieg did well today and feel somewhat reassured a viable competitor will eventually emerge from the scrum.

Where we live it can get to over 40C in the summer, often for days on end. Somehow, I find myself channeling my mother (who has been dead for 25 years) and insisting upon closing the curtains in the middle of the day to keep the heat out. Now in the middle of winter it is -4C (24.8F).

Bertie, heading out into the cool Aberdeen haar, sends a message of sympathy to the PONs. Not even they can think that 44 degrees is the best day ever.

Out for our early morning walk just before 8 a.m. (27ÂșC in the shade by the front door) but realise that we shall soon need to revert to our earlier start of 6:30 - just as it's getting light.
However, have you ever tried convincing a Labrador that it might be a good idea to walk first, and then have breakfast? Sophie, will I'm sure, sympathise with Inca Lab., when I'm trying to convince her !

It is hard to get up early when it is impossible to go to sleep until things cool down, around 1 a.m.
I am sleeping on the sofa--there's a ceiling fan above, but more importantly I leave the windows open all night. Les canicules are a boon for burglars, who look for open windows of sleeping residents. Our shutters, closed to a crack, have hinges that creak/scream loudly when moved. I hope it would wake me up if anybody tried to get in.
Sadly, this heat is going to incite more people to get air conditioning, which will lead to more climate change.

44 is crazy hot. We find 33 deg is a bit too sweaty. As you say it is becoming the new normal.

It is a brisk 8 degrees here tonight.

Have you ever tried an oscillating garden sprinkler (trying a cheap version from your hardware shop) for Bob and Sophie to cool off in the heat? My boys run through and around the water spay when I turn the gargen hose on. Started with a low water flow and increased things when they go used to it jumping over it. Somehow your description of Bob and sliding doors at airports makes me wonder what he would do with a moving spray of water, to cool his fur,in your current summer heat!

Same heat here - It's putting our ice-maker through its paces.

I watched part of the debates, I think both nights belonged to the women. I was disappointed by Joe Biden - And as a follow up to yesterday's post, did you notice that Andrew Yang, in typical young-rich guy-fashion, didn't wear a tie?

I like heat - but even I would be challenged by fourty four degrees. It's bright and sunny here - but struggling to be twenty degrees! YAM xx

44°C is hot! We've been having frosty mornings, but warmish days. I hope you don't have humidity. Can stand the heat, but not humidity.

The weather is just like yours here. Hot and very humid. Bob is just too cute being a guard. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos. Have a great and hopefully cooler weekend.

A paddle pool sounds like a good choice for the best day ever.

Sounds like you're doing the same as us. The pukka pool is reserved for us, and dog-face has his own paddling pool.
