Baby coots + pond + Sophie = Owners high stress levels.
There are three baby coots nesting in the dense undergrowth on one side of the village pond.
Sophie, who takes a keen interest in all things small and fluttery ( and edible ) rushes over to see them
The baby coots, followed by their mother, rush into the safety of the shrubbery. They use the water lily leaves as stepping stones.
Sophie is grabbed and 'encouraged' home before she can leap headlong into the the pond in pursuit. Sophie by temperament is a 'consequences be damned ' girl who lives for the moment. Given half a chance she would be in the pond and Angus would be in there too pulling her out. Bob by contrast understands that the pond is full of water and should be avoided.
The mayor has fixed a strange contraption to the plane tree by the ox track. 'The Font' thinks it may be a bees nest protector. It has been carefully shaped to cover a depression in the side of the trunk. A small metal entrance with a circular hole is the only way in - or out.

Happily picturing in my mind the wee coots padding across the water lilies. Maybe Sophie things she too can walk on water.
Cheers, Gail.
We think Sophie might have been a very surprised girl if she tried to walk across that pond!
Sophie seems ready to deploy her titanium joints.
Do you think the mayor custom-made the bee protector?
Yes. Artisinal bee protectors are a very French village type thing.
She would soon discover that she's heavier than a baby Coot .
Sophie thinks she can fly so why not try walking on water too ?
Hari om
Honey bees, I trust, and not the killer kind! Are you sure Sophie doesn't have feline genes??? YAM xx
Yes. I am not sure Sophie doesn't have feline genes.
I think it is wonderful that our Sophie is so fearless and inquisitive, After all she went through with her knees and recuperation, this formerly shy puppy is now Super-Sophie! I lover her spirit!
What would happen if she jumped into the pond, other than slimy Sophie and freaked-out Angus -- is it shallow enough that she could get out by herself? Maybe she'd find it unpleasant enough not to repeat.
The pond is deep enough to require the assistance of her master to clamber out of. And as to it being unpleasant enough not to repeat .....
Fearless and inquisitive. Other words have been used.
Oh. Sorry I asked. Silly me.
