Another 40 degree plus day. Bob and Sophie spend much of the afternoon on the cool tile floors downstairs. Two fans are arranged to provide a constant stream of air to their front and rears. The angelic duo are keen to get out ... and even keener to get back inside. Comfort breaks taken at high speed.
The mayor is busy delivering water to the old folk of the village. He also checks on everyone first thing in the morning and again last thing at night. The nonagenarian widow at the crossroads is asked if she'd like to be taken to the old folks home for a few days . '' It's air conditioned '' says the mayor by way of explanation. ' Most certainly not ! ' comes the reply. The Old Farmer chooses this day of all days to clamber up a ladder and repair some dislodged tiles on his garage roof. Angus is not sure that ladders, roofs and extreme heat are a good combination for an 86 year old. The Old Farmer is not deterred but he does allow Angus to hold the base of the ladder.
It gets so hot our metal gates have expanded and will only open when brute force is applied. This Death Valley story is perhaps not so far fetched - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/29/montpellier-melts-45c-heatwave-europe
Tomatoes in the greengrocers but the baker is not responding well to the heat. Croissants have been made but the baguettes are still in the oven. As for cakes .... nothing !
The poor roses are literally burning up as soon as they come into bloom.

What a divide; haar, cold wind, drizzle... usual drill up this way. I do hope there are no repercussions from working in that for TOF. Or Angus. YAM xx
think the baker might be forgiven this week. And wells done to the mayor for looking out for the old folk.
Here in Aberdeen I attended a garden party celebrating the birthdays of some good friends. It looked like the weather gods were shining on Jenny and Robert, and there we all were enjoying a pleasantly warm 23-24ÂșC. It lasted a couple of hours, then crash, Houston style thunder, and an impressive (and rare in NorthernScotland) lightening display.
Cheers, Gail.
No cakes!!! Watermelon and salads are my go to summer foods.
We hope it at least cools a bit overnight.
Being a native Yankee gal, I absolutely despise the heat. All of you enduring this heatwave have my deepest sympathy. And no cake for comfort...very sad indeed.
When you can't have cake because of the heat, eat ice cream.
Very hot here too, so after a very early morning walk, we've battened down the hatches and are about to crank up the air conditioning another notch. I wonder what we're going to do when the hot weather really gets into it's stride !
There has definitely been an increase in the consumption of ice cream in this house, but sadly everyone else has the same idea, and the supermarket freezers are almost empty.
Though we are having cold mornings...we do not envy you that heat.
All sympathies to the baker, or anyone who has to work in extreme heat. It's salad and fruit weather for sure.
I like the spirit of the nonagenarian lady, and your mayor is a treasure.
