Saturday

It has been a busy week. We have been away in London and Scotland ...

... where men ( and women ) in dark suits got together for a chance to shoot the breeze.

Scotland was windy and wet and borderline cold.

Since we were last there the wee house round the corner has been restored...

... and matches the wee house that faces it. The road level has risen considerably since medieval days which is why the ground floor windows now appear to be at ankle height.

The butcher ( with the delivery bike ) is still thriving ...

as is the nearby restaurant which is following the UK wide trend to frame the door in plants. These small splashes of living colour stand out in an urban setting.

The baker maintains the Scots high sugar approach to pastry. ...

... which is somehow very different from the French way of doing things.

A rather interesting watercolour of a Fife  fishing village.

The family reunion was both lengthy ... and emotional. The afternoon was spent in long walks interspersed with ear tickles. The PONs spent last night sleeping the sleep of the righteous.

And here is a Moldovan wedding which looks to be a very cheerful affair : https://twitter.com/PositiveRomania/status/1136899034680057862

That wedding does look great fun. And I like the idea of a PositiveRomania Twitter thread.
Also rather like the Fife watercolour.
I note that the Guardian today ranks St Andrews as second best UK university, after Cambridge. Although a closer look at their league tables does reveal some very unlikely placings . Cheers, Gail.

I too find appeal in that wee watercolour... and a buttery! The Scots answer to the croissant &*>
Crikey, that's a wedding for which the invitations would have to read "no heart conditions please"! YAM xx

Much to my surprise St.A is full of postgrads who can take data and format it for AI. Quite a feat as barely 2 out of 100 sets can be used commercially even in London or NY! It is cheaper to study in St.Andrews than it is in almost any of the top 100 US colleges which may explain the position in the rankings and the availability of talent .

Loved the water colour too, I wonder if it's possible to buy a print? Perhaps Amazon will tell me...
What a jolly affair that wedding was, and what a great start to married life !
I quite fancy the idea of a wee house - renovated of course, but the thought of the weather puts me off.

I, too, liked the harbor painting.
That restaurant has an interesting way of listing what it offers. Is that wisteria, with such a dark purple?

A cream meringue. Now I want one and Canadian bakers just don't get the concept. I have to wait for Spain in February.

Having just returned from a 15 day hiking/knitting extravaganza in Scotland, I can attest to the weather. I was bundled up like an Eskimo.

It was probably a year fitted more for knitting than hiking !

Problem about the wqater colour is that there isn't a single figure in it. Truly a still life.

There has been a lot of weather this year. A man from New Zealand, who was one of the speakers, told me that New Zealands weather is more like Portugals than Scotlands.

Looks like Wisteria but its a cascade of dark purple pansies. Gin is fast becoming the tipple of choice for a younger generation.

Nothing quite like a Scottish meringue. Impossible to eat but worth it.
