Mournful but well fed.
After a fourth night of wind and heavy rain the courtyard is covered in leaves and branches. Bob surveys the garden for any signs of squirrels or, heaven forbid, C-A-T-S. At the drainage ditch Bob and Angus wave at the school bus and discuss Gordon Sondlands remarkable memory. Sophie , ever practical, heads off along the lane with a portion of owl discarded vole.
The supermarket has segued straight from Halloween into full Christmas mode. This years must have item a four foot tall wooden nutcracker.
In the US section of the exotic foods of the world aisle six jars of Heinz Salad Cream make an appearance. What will the residents of the corner of France profonde make of this exotic delight ?
At the door of the supermarket 14 year old MiLou and his great great great grandson maintain a mournful watch for their mistress. Or, perhaps more correctly the great great great grandson maintains careful watch. MiLou just looks mournful in a well fed sort of way.

Not sure about the salad cream (I'm actually not even sure what salad cream is), but my husband is quite partial to Frank's RedHot sauce. I love the photo of MiLou and his great great great grandson. It seems like the scene would make a wonderful painting, and I've been thinking who should paint it - Degas? Or maybe Edward Hopper?
Bertie thinks Milou and his great great great grandson may be distant cousins and thinks they both need cheering up. Pet passport (still valid, courtesy of the January extension) at the ready, he preparing to hop on the next train/ferry to France profonde....
Aww bless. Sweet Milou looks like he needs to be curled up in a warm bed. They are good pups for waiting so patiently.
MiLou reminds me of Paddington Bear. Adorable. I cannot resist a shaggy dog, especially one sitting "inelegantly";-)

Oh yes, I too thought WFT genes!!! Poor Milou has, I fear, been ill served by kindness. There is something of the Eeyore about him... YAM xx
Hopper would have got it right.
Indeed !
The old lady owner takes them to the supermarket every day its open. This is how we know their names. When its colder MiLou may stay at home.
Comfortable if inelegant.
Inelegant poses or not, I like the fact that you can take your dog into the supermarket, and there is somewhere you can leave them.
Taking your dog to the supermarket , or a restaurant, is the most natural thing in France. Of course some dogs are more vocal than others about being left ... even for a second.
