Savant.

6:08 am is Sophie's prefered time to wake up. This is also the time when her master starts his day. There is a causal linkage between the two events - an ear piercing ' Let's get the day started' shriek. Angus thinks Sophie's ability to wake up at exactly the same time every day surely makes her some form of canine savant. 'The Font' rather more prosaically thinks Sophie hears the farmer at the crossroads start up his tractor.

This morning PONette and master are in agreement that the cake offering at the bakers is unadventurous in the extreme. Angus also thinks the croissant tastes ever so slightly of cheese. Sophie eats the croissant ends with evident  gusto so perhaps I'm mistaken.

Brie de Nangis in the supermarket. We prefer Brie de Melun to Brie de Meaux but this is the first time I've seen Brie de Nangis. We opt not to buy it. The cheese looks as though it's been wrapped in cellophane for a week and hasn't enjoyed the experience.

In the greengrocers exotic Chinese Pomelos for three bucks a pop. Angus has no idea what an exotic Pomelo is so they are passed by in silence.

Back at The Rickety Old Farmhouse after her first outing of the day Sophie looks in need of a thorough grooming.

The bakery offers are making me feel depressed. Even the cheese is sad.

Things will almost certainly be better tomorrow !

If you like citrus fruit, it might be worth trying the exotic pomelo - they taste somewhat like grapefruit but sweeter. The rinds are typically about an inch thick, and peeling a pomelo takes some effort, but I think that's part of the charm - this is one of the things my son specifically requested when he was home for the holidays. I guess they are probably even more exotic in Ohio.

Bertie, who it has to be admitted does not have a deep appreciation of French cuisine, thinks a bit of cheese in a croissant might not a bad idea.

Pomelos have now hit Lidl in Elgin, dans le Morayshire profond. Perhaps some epic EU trade deal which will of course no longer brighten our shelves if not our tables after Brex***t.
Thought this was very interesting. Pity it hadn't been shown before the 2016 EU referendum. https://www.bbc.co.uk/ideas/videos/what-would-the-uk-be-like-without-immigration/p080b8wx?playlist=bbc-briefing

Each Saturday morning friend and I meet for breakfast at a German run bakery. Their speciality (amongst others) is probably the best croissant in town. I have mine toasted, with ham and cheese, and find it quite acceptable.
Strange that Pomelos are exotic, when they are just the Spanish word for grapefruit. Perhaps we'll one day see Pamplemousse in our supermarkets here, and they will be touted as exotic!

If that's an egg custard tart, I'm impressed. A slice with a cup of coffee just now would be quite acceptable.

I, too, was eyeing the custard tart - the only thing worth attention on that shelf, it has to be admitted. YAM xx

When I was a preschooler my babysitter ran an Italian bakery. I could choose any cookie in the display to have after lunch. Joy! If I am allowed in heaven it'll look like that bakery.
Egg custard= yum. I will bake Grape Nut custard today in honor of your bakery Angus.
Sophie is doing so well and looks very pretty. Hello to the Font.

We think the amount of grooming needed after a walk indicates the success of the walk!

I thought about Sophie's grooming woes when I was reading about some "rare breeds" coming to the Westminster Dog show --The Bergamasco Sheepdog from Italy caught my eye. You think Sophie has bad hair days!!

Just seen that Canberra airport is closed. For some, probably incorrect, reason seem to think that you and the intrepid guardians are near there. Be safe.
