A field of wild orchids.

Up early to talk to men in dark suits. Today, thanks to self isolation and lockdown, they're to be found all over the place. The miracle of Zoom. Palm Beach, Vero Beach ( what's the difference ?) a third on Nantucket, a fourth on Hilton Head and another in the Hamptons. Two are Navy reservists and have been called up ' for the duration'. In America civic duty extends to the C suite.Despite the relocations things are ticking along . The IT guys go in every day to make sure the others can teleconference and access their systems. On average 6%  of the firm physically go to work so the others can work from home. Everyone expects to be back at work by Memorial Day. There is less consensus as to when a vaccine will be found.

Sophie waits, almost patiently, for me to finish so she can head off on her walk. Could there be a more beautiful Easter Saturday morning? The sun bright, the air warm ( but not too warm ) and the valley full of birdsong. Another day when there's no man made sound to compete with the wrens and finches.

Sophie's new trim may not be the most flattering but it has the great advantage of being easily manageable.

Down the road towards the waterfall we stumble on a field of wild orchids.

We've been this way three or four times over the last week but this is the first time the flowers have been in bloom. To start with I think there must be just one or two but then it's clear there's a whole field of them.

Something reassuring about the orchids . Whatever happens they'll be here next year too. A floral Easter reminder that there will be new life on the other side of this. This makes me smile.

At the edge of the field a small patch of these yellow flowers. Surely too grand to be dandelions ?

Sombre but brilliant . Ohio got it really right : https://twitter.com/JoshuaGrubbsPhD/status/1248317963566006272

I meant to put this up yesterday but thought it was too slow. Seems I was wrong :  https://twitter.com/MrAndrewCotter/status/1248313303270596610

Half the people from the New Jersey neighborhood where I grew up retired to Vero Beach, including my parents. Trump, who's from Queens, will hopefully retire to Palm Beach. Never the twain shall meet. Although of course they both look down on Ohio. I've learned better since my son started school there, and you are right, Ohio has been brilliant. It's obviously been very hard for many leaders to step up and act before things get so bad there's no chance anyone will say you've overreacted, but Gov. Mike DeWine should go down as a hero in the history books.

Just like France to have a designer dandelion!

The designer dandelion is called goatsbeard Tragopogon pratensis (Fr. salsifis des prés).

Sophie looks like she lost weight, her trim is so cute!
Love all the flowers at the ROF and the neighborhood. It is still cold
and grey here in New England. Happy Easter!
