Through the onion fields.

Every evening we block off an hour between six and seven and head upstairs to the 'snug' to watch an hour of comedy on the tv. We've watched 'Modern Family' series 1 thru 10 ( except series 6 which is unavailable and series 8 which Angus ordered in an American format ).  We've now come to an end of the show and are waiting for Amazon to deliver 'It's always sunny in Philadelphia', 'Schitts Creek', 'Nathan for You' and 'Silicon Valley'. Angus doubts they can match the wit of Modern Family but we shall see. They have been recommended by a younger generation.

This morning PONette and master head off for a walk through the onion fields. Sophie eyes up this change to her routine with what might best be described as a mix of wariness and enthusiasm. After a moments hesitation she bounds off down the hill towards the little stream. The dry soil providing a firm footing for those titanium knees. She pauses, looks over her shoulder, and waits impatiently for me to catch up.

Half a mile further on, where the track turns at right angles towards the farmstead, Sophie stops again. There can be no doubting the ' Do keep up !' look on her face. It is a universal female trait that Angus recognizes all too well.

At the little waterfall do I detect an almost imperceptible sigh of exasperation ?

Further down the stream the beavers, otters, coypu or whatever the local equivalent are have built themselves a rather grand dam. Sophie is initially keen to explore but soon thinks better of it. We return to the car with her fur merely wet rather than soaked,

So starts a sunny and warm Thursday morning in deepest, deepest France profonde.

Sophie clearly regards you as a partner in her daily adventures. I am happy to have the TV recommendations. A while back I tried Googling for good comedies on Netflix and was referred to a show called The Good Place - which I hated. I gave up after that and went back to The Crown, but it will be good to watch something funny right about now. We are still not quite sorted out here in Tokyo - discussions between the city government and the national government have apparently stalled over whether barbershops are to be excluded or not. My husband has an appointment at 10 am tomorrow morning just in case.

A bit of comedy does everyone good at the moment. Modern family is a favorite here too.

Good on miss Sophie enjoying the walk in the sunshine. It is feeling like autumn here now with cold and dark evenings and dark in the morning on the walk to work.

Our curve is lowering today in New Zealand. Only 1200 or so with the virus, 14 in hospital, 4 in intensive care and only 1 death. Today only 29 people tested positive, a drop from previously. Still in lockdown for 2 more weeks. No barbershops or hairdressers for us.

Really? I LOVE "The Good Place"!!! The Eleanor character on earth is exactly someone I know, a 38-year-old who is on disability for depression in order to get a steady check while working off books ("only dummies pay taxes"), who pays the mechanic and any other guy who repairs things for her with sex instead of cash, who had a fit (throwing things on the floor) when our then-2-year-old kid had the audacity to eat in front of her when she was dieting. She intentionally puts her food trash into the paper recycling containers because her commune charges households per bag of trash and because she wants to ruin recycling. I don't think that even hell would bring redemption to this woman's empty heart as it does on the show.
My kid also likes "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" for laughs. And we just finished season 4 of La Casa de Papel--not a comedy at all but fun to watch. And yes, "Modern Family" is brilliant.
For a funny movie, "The Princess Bride" is an oldie but goodie.

So pleased to see that Sophie is enjoying her walks, despite being accompanied by such an exasperating human...
Gail is currently treating herself to one episode a night of 'Derry Girls', available through Channel 4.

As my father is not much into comedy shows, I am having to deal with endless reruns of Homes Under The Hammer, Escape to The Country, anything from Forces TV and Pointless. Yup. that last one sums it up well... I withdraw to the computer... YAM xx

HBO's VEEP with Julia Louis-Dreyfus is very funny and the cast is impeccable if you have not watched it. Also Larry David's CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM is very funny, too - also from HBO. Both great escapes from these isolating and stressful times.

So funny, we turn to British comedy here in NH, Agatha Raisin, Doc Martin, Hamish MacBeth, British cooking/ baking shows. Plus, on IG man with a hammer, daniel kanter,adamshaw_design for DIY fun. Agree with all the above suggestions but have seen them.
Yam, when I step away for a while I come back to WWII movies and a show called "Forged in Fire" about blacksmith competitions. Man TV. ;-)
Congrats to NZ...an example of what one can achieve with real leadership in place! Lucky Poppy!
Angus: do keep up! At least you haven't had that "Don't embarrass me at the mall, Dad! look.....yet.

The Good Place is really good and unique. It may take a few episodes to get onto it. I also like Kristen Bell's momsplaining episodes on youtube, which she did for Ellen's show. They are pretty funny

My sympathies YAM. Quite a few channels are unavailable to me lately, and I'm left with similar programmes to your father's favourites! Pointless particularly has always seemed, well, pointless to me. Now the evenings are lighter I shall be outdoors more, and watch even less TV. I don't watch during the day, and switch on about 7 p.m. I do enjoy a good detective series though, and have finally caught up with Michael Portillo's Great Railway Journeys.

Lucky Sophie to have such an enjoyable walk. Inca and I are about to set out for our afternoon walk around the block. It's far further than we're allowed, by law, so we hope we don't meet any policemen!

It's 'would I lie to you? or QI' here.

One would guess, ANGUS, that you were also a fan of FRASIER.

Nobody can pull me out of the doldrums like George from "Seinfeld" or Dwight from "The office" :-)

Going back in time - "Fawlty Towers" made my stomach hurt from laughing...

We are sad that Modern Family is done, but they had an excellent run for many years. We enjoyed your lovely walkies on such a beautiful Thursday morning. Thanks for sharing. Have a pawsome day.

CG - yes, I like a good detective run - such as Shetland or Vera and do enjoy Porti's trips (and archive investigations)... Yxx
