A record of those unimportant little things that are too important to be forgotten.

Leave it alone ?
The local butcher can't understand why 'The Font' wants the bone left in the Easter joint of lamb . He thinks the bone should go and the joint be rolled and stuffed. He complies with the instructions grudgingly. ' It's good meat but if you think your way is better '.
This morning Angus clears up the dining room. Last night Sophie did her routine of patrolling backwards and forwards under the table while gently rubbing against our legs. This is her silent way of reminding us that roast lamb is a staple - and essential - part of her diet. After what seems like and eternity Sophie gets lamb with her kibbles. Result !
Sophie is of the belief that the roast lamb inhabits the dining room. It was there last night so it must be there this morning. She fixes me with that guilt inducing ' Why don't you understand ?' stare she reserves for moments like this.
The dining room remains on the 'to do' list at The Rickety Old Farmhouse. Bar the odd coat of paint it was last decorated in 1878 when a fireplace and wall fabric were installed. Today it has a feeling of gently crumbling rusticity or in the case of the wall fabric gently fraying rusticity. Neither of us can agree on what to do with it. Rip it all out or let it contentedly decay for another century ?

I was just thinking how lovely your dining room is and had to laugh when I reached your final paragraph. I guess then that mine would be a vote for contented decay. Based on your advice, I went to look for grooming gloves on Amazon and ordered a pair of what I hope is the same kind of thing you found. They are supposed to arrive tomorrow - fingers crossed they will work on our grooming-averse PONette.
We love roast lamb too - and like you think it is much better with the bone in as it adds flavour and is the quickest way to cook it. I hope there were leftovers.
I too am firmly in the 'don't remove the lamb bone before cooking' camp. As is Bertie (who, judging by the behaviours in your second link, might be at least part cat!)
Cheers, Gail.
We find french lamb too fatty and lacking flavour so we always buy New Zealand lamb. It's available at all our local supermarkets and cheaper than the local product. I vote for bone in for a roast, but we "butterfly" it and marinate in lemon, rosemary and garlic for the barbecue.

...Is there that inbetween thing of restoration a possibility for the dining room? Thus ensuring it has another couple of hundred years in which to start decaying once more... YAM xx
Thanks for the chuckle of the fun tweets.
There was no "lamb or ham" at our house yesterday. I took a less traditional approach. It was a needed day off from work as I start another 5 day work week. I just wish more had gotten done.
I've always liked your dining room. Especially the fabric for the chair cushions -- I think Sophie matches the decor.
Hard to know which I like better roast lamb or the curry which is sure to follow.
I'll venture to guess that Angus is in the faded rusticity camp while 'The Font' has plans for another color scheme.
The wisteria certainly put on a stunning Easter display.
We did a bit of an Easter celebration across three states including a hymn, poetry and art. We each had "homework" prior and brought something we thought represented the essence of Easter. Spring and Easter - messages of hope and renewal.
Stay well.
Angus is of the view there is no need to rush into a hasty decision. If in doubt prevaricate.
As always, thank you for the laughter. I like the shabby chic look. I'd leave it.
Entertaining photos, once again. I very much like the shade of paint on the bookshelves, as it compliments the wallpaper. I sadly disagree with Sheila, and think perhaps new chair cushions that reflect the blue/gray look of the room might be in order. That would be a suitable update, IMHO. Happy Easter Monday from tornado-ridden SE USA.
Procrastinate.
If there is lamb, it doesn't matter what the dining room looks like.
The dining room is lovely, as is the table setting. Sophie is looking most presentable as well, if a bit on the sober side. And your wisteria is making its usual grand statement; I look forward to seeing it come round each spring. Our small wisteria is just now putting out leaves; it has yet to bloom (ever). Perhaps this will be the year!
