Accomplished.

The government is still pumping out radio ads telling us to wear masks and maintain a safe distance.  The reality is that the pandemic is fast disappearing into memory. ' The Font' is surprised to find that the little local greengrocer has washed off all the marks on the floor designed to keep customers a a metre apart. The perspex screen by the cash desk has also gone.  The staff have stopped wearing the masks . ' Far too hot to wear them in this heat ' the excuse.

Our routine tour of the village. We note that the chateau is empty. Seems the German billionaire and his wife haved move back to Switzerland.

The little circus is packing up and moving on. On the field, where they've set up the marquee, the llama, the shaggy goat and one of the two dogs are on their side, asleep. Must have been a late running final night. There's no sign of the pony or the other dog.  They've presumably gone to explore someones garden.

From my desk I hear The Old Farmer return. No mistaking the sound of the silver Mercedes as it sweeps across the gravel on his drive. The Old Farmer ' tinkers' under the bonnet of the Mercedes for twenty minutes. Everyone so often he swears. Today he's dressed for comfort rather than style. Red check shirt, jungle boots and shiny blue tracksuit trousers.

Two more old farmers arrive. One in a white VW van with a trailer. The other in one of those half car, half truck type vehicles that supposedly combine comfort and practicality. There is more swearing, this time of a communal variety. The three of them are trying to manhandle an orange metallic device onto the back of the trailer. The process requires much thought, lengthy pauses and protracted bouts of hand waving. A hip flask is passed round every three or four minutes. Finally, the job is accomplished. The hip flask is passed round one final time.

Location, location, location . In France all the companies have their headquarters in Paris.  In Germany they're more widely spread but preponderantly in the West of the country :

Well the virus came back to New Zealand, after an absence of 24 days. Two returning family members from the UK left their quarantine facilities in Auckland to drive to Wellington (about 8 hours with comfort stops). A trip that they told health officials that they did with no stopping and on one tank of diesel. Doable but NZer's have their doubts. Now one of the sisters has been confirmed with Coronavirus. We now have one livid Prime Minister demanding who allowed them out on compassionate leave to visit family member in Wellington, without being tested. Here were we being complacence in our little corner of the universe. And another overseas traveller in quarantine has been tested positive.

Laxness is always quick to return; shreyas and preyas - the path of good and the path of ease. Most opt for the latter. It's not always bad, but rarely yields long-term results... and breeds complacency and sloth. Wonder what 'oor wee Nicola' will be telling us tae dae the day... YAM xx

Does anybody still listen to the radio? Even in the car, with bluetooth it's easy to stream something else.
It seemed like lots of people were masked on recent trips to town. A recent (radio but I listened to it as a downloaded podcast) interview with epidemiologist Michael Osterholm, who warned that every pandemic has waves over years and that this is far from over.
I wonder what the Old Farmer is up to. He must miss his buddies.

You're right. Folks seem to think this is over . Let's be cautious about the return of the cold a flu season. I read a study by Stanford Clinic ( I think - will dig it out and post ) which looks to end of September as being the likely timing of a recurrence. Absolutely no one is talking about it but must assume governments are quietly preparing. No point in being pessimistic about it, just stay careful and safe.

My brothers are waiting to find out whether incomers from the mainland will be allowed onto the ferries.

What is truly odd about the story is that these two women wouldn't have been allowed to travel to a funeral in the UK but somehow thought they could go to one in New Zealand. Even odder they were allowed in.

I think they were returning citizens who had lived in the UK for years.

My friend was taken to the hospital last weekend. She could not swallow. Her husband was not allowed in this Atlanta hospital. He spent the night in the parking lot. My friend was in charge of updating her husband. Early the next morning they performed surgery. As soon as she was slightly awake, her husband was phoned to pick her up. Three Covid tents stood outside the emergency room doors. This virus is not close to being over!

What a frightening thing to have happen. I fear that some States opened up too early.
