13,000 weddings at $1 million a pop.

Scottish summer weather. Bright sunshine one minute, showers the next. As we pass the cathedral the sound of bagpipes can be heard wafting towards us from outside the university chapel. A piper practising for someones big day. An article in this months Atlantic says that were 13,000 weddings in America last year that cost  $1 million or more . The average cost is still an eyewatering $50,000. No wonder opting to tie the knot in a small Scottish town is so popular. It's difficult to imagine few weddings rising to average US levels around here. The Atlantic article describes in detail the growth of this wedding industrial industry.

On the beach two sheepdogs running in and out of the water. Even from a distance of a hundred or so yards it's clear that they are beyond the happiness stage and are now tripping over themselves with a full on joy overload. I'm guessing that for every step the sheepdogs owners take the dogs take twenty. This guess may not do full justice to the dogs athleticism....or stamina.

More and more dead birds on the beach. I'd hoped avian flu was a thing of the past but it seems to be getting worse. The owners of two labradors are trying to coax the remains of a dead seagull from the jaws of one of their dogs. That makes four recently dead birds we've seen this morning. Labradors can be remarkably stubborn when they want to be. This dog holding the dead gull in its jaws has suddenly developed clinical deafness and is holding on tight to its prey. So much for the belief that labradors are well behaved.

Back through town . The flowers in the beds front of one of the old buildings lined up in colourful regularity.

By the good coffee cafe a golfing gentleman in plus fours.

Later this morning Angus has a Zoom call with the landscape gardener. The builder was supposed to show up yesterday to move a large pile of soil in the garden. He's late. After two hours I manage to reach him on the mobile. " Sorry Pal. I was busy ". We arrange for him to reschedule for Friday afternoon. I'd like to sack him but getting someone else to do it in holiday season might be on the impossible side of difficult.

So Scottish. Everyone does their best to ignore the rain but the piper has an umbrella held over him :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohll4YsObDM

Weddings can be expensive affairs - all the little 'must haves' soon add up. It's one day, not a marathon - that's the marriage!

I wonder how many of these ultra expensive weddings stay the course? Very few I should imagine which makes them eye wateringly expensive.
As the owner of five Labradors (not all at once!) I can confirm that Labradors and food of any sort or age will not be parted!

We limited the guest list to 25 people, and we knew everyone who was there when we got married in 2015. It was nice, and much less expensive.

Your descriptions of Labs is spot on! My two sweet, gentle boys turned into defiant tough guys when trying to pry chicken bones or other food treasures from their mouths. Their stomachs ruled their brains.

The ceremony commemorating the fallen firefighter amidst the rain was most poignant.
