H2.

July ! The first half of the year went by in a flash. For the second half of the year our goal is to get the builders out and move back into the last wee house before Denmark. The latest on site meeting with the architect has August 9th as the completion date. The builders are now on holiday for two full weeks. In their absence the decorators will be moving in.

Back in France the annual riots are taking place. The man with anger management issues phones to say that the centre of Toulouse is a war zone. Hyperbole, it seems, is alive and well.  His relationship with the German billionaires builder remains 'fraught'. The court case revolving around the use of rationed water to fill up his swimming pool ( there are strict restrictions on water use due to the lack of rain ) was supposed to be heard this coming week. It has been 'postponed'.

A walk to the end of the pier. There's a memory post there. We must have passed it a hundred times and not noticed it.  A dozen small plaques commemorating townsfolk who used to stand here and watch the sunrise and sunsets.  I don't think I've ever seen a memory post anywhere else.

Hordes of Spanish tourists in town. The rain has returned. The poor Spanish look decidedly unhappy wrapped up against the Scottish summer. They listen attentively to tour guides who point out the historic execution spots scattered across town.

Outside the dry cleaners the freshly filled water bowl now has a 'treat jar' for passing canine visitors.

A collection of ceremonial daggers has made it into the window of the Highland store. These should come with a statutory warning . Airport security ( and the TSA in particular ) do not approve of kilt wearers trying to board a flight with a ceremonial dagger tucked into their socks or taken on board in cabin baggage.

Here's a new French hotel on the way north to the Ile de Re. It has an electric powered boat for exploring the local river :https://almae-collection.com/lanauve/en/

A return to a link earlier in the week. What a surprise : https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/6/30/italian-police-say-man-filmed-carving-name-on-colosseum-from-uk

We once set off from EDI to fly to a wedding in Malmesbury. I was desperate to get to the Old Bell in time for a posh dinner, and the only hope we had was if we only took cabin luggage. My OH had a kilt roll, and I wore the wedding hat with my jeans. We posted the sgian dhubh. It was the day after the attack at Glasgow airport. 😳. The queue for security was two hours. Best laid plans, and all that.

I like "wrapped against the Scottish summer". It's rather a relief to have the weather here back to normal!
Cheers, Gail (not a heat lover).

Cooler and moist?

The Spanish would indeed be unhappy to be wrapped up in their mid-winter clothes in June. This morning when I went out just on 8 a.m., it was already touching 30ºC! That's just the sort of temperature that only sun-loving holiday makers can enjoy.

On my walk from Swansea to the end point in Mumbles, I saw memorial benches along the beaches. BBC noted that the Colosseum Culprit lived in Bristol. Perhaps Italy should put its special unit art police on the task....

A little plaque for Sophie on the memory post? She brought out canine awareness and kindness during your walks around town. Rain or not, I would be happy to be in St. Andrews! Travel is good for the soul.

I thought, as did many others I'm sure that the culprit would be from the UK. How embarrassing.

Diaday, I love your idea of a little plaque for Sophie on the memory post.
