Two badly balanced squirrels on the bird feeders this morning. Grain flies everywhere as they rock from side to side. A flock of goldfinches sit on the branches of the apple trees waiting for them to go. The grey feathered seagull chicks now appear to be the size of small supermarket chickens. Their day, once again, started at four thirty with lusty demands for breakfast. Their parents, it has to be said, are very dutiful.
The old bandstand has been renovated. Sunday afternoon sees a formal re-opening ceremony. The weather, for this auspicious event, is glorious.
A brass band are playing away to a group of town worthies and visitors from the old folks home. Younger folks sit and picnic on the grass. The older and grander members of the audience have been provided with plastic stackable chairs. A large group of mid-western golfers heading down to the Old course look on in bemusement.
In between numbers the conductor asks the audience to ' Give us a few likes on Instagram or Facebook. Your choice '. The age profile of the audience hints that his request may go unanswered - the vast majority are of an age that is unaware and untroubled by social media . Advanced years do not in any way hinder their 'clap along' enthusiasm as golden numbers of the 30's and 40's are played. A young lady soloist on the flugel horn gets particularly warm applause with a rendition of 'Begin the Beguine'.
We discover that the renovation was due to cost £55,000 but 'due to greater than anticipated corrosion in the steel members ' the final price soared to £140,000. On hearing this the audience makes a suitably impressed intake of breath.
In a strange quirk of fate the incommunicado joiner has texted to say that he will be at the wee house in town to fit the new bookcases on Tuesday. This means that 'The Font' will stay behind to open up the house while Angus heads off to the coast to supervise work there. We were coming round to the view that we'd never hear from the joiner again so this latest development is taken to be reassuring.

Squirrels! Wish I could add a photo. Ours wraps his toes around a branch to hold him as he stretches his full length to just barely catch onto the bird feeder (marketed as squirrel proof by the way) and fill his front paws with the luscious treats.
Surely the band should be sitting in the bandstand??
Perhaps the band want to make the most of the fine weather? There again, it looks as though there are too many to fit into the bandstand.
Is the joiner after some extra cash before he goes on holiday? That's normally an excellent motivation.
Splendid bandstand, but, like WFT Nobby, I thought the band was in the wrong place.
Maybe I am getting old, my phone if a social media free zone, when I replaced my phone 18 month ago, I didn't install FB, Insta. Twitter never made sense to me. A sign of a hardening of the attitudes.

Decent day right enough... Better than the 9'C I rose to this morning a little outside Aylesbury. Now parked near Newbury after very showery drive and 15'C with promise of half decent sunset. Trusting the chippy does indeed turn up on Tuesday... YAM xx
A beautiful day on the east coast of Scotland.
