His eye is on the sparrow

A squall barges in from the mountains. It comes from nowhere and heads away just as quickly.

The three seagull chicks continue to grow. The house immediately next door to them has been let to a group of six Beverly Hills golfers. The golfers are paying a high four figure sum for the privilege of being there. This morning as they come down to breakfast in their back garden it seems that one of them is decidedly unhappy . " Those ******* birds woke me up at four o'clock" he says in a voice that can be heard two streets away. The seagull chicks still haven't ventured off the roof but this morning they have started to clamber up from the flat roof extension towards the chimney pots.

We are clearly not the only ones keeping a watchful eye on the seagull chicks. Signs have appeared urging drivers to be cautious. In a world gone mad there  is something reassuring about the poster . It has a 'his eye is on the sparrow' kindness to it.

The man with the trumpet and boom box is up and about early. He's standing on the corner of the street by the shoe shop. Despite the early hour and lack of people he's launched into a lively rendition of Blue Spanish Eyes. I'm guessing he's waiting for the first coach tours from Edinburgh to arrive. The unhappy golfer is going to be even less happy when he hears the raucous strains of the trumpet wafting towards him.

In the wee coffee shop 'The Font' is given a flyer. If only this study had been underway six months ago we would have been willing  participants. The chances of a PON sitting still long enough to watch a video are minimal. However, the small gift ( as long as it was edible) would have been enthusiastically received.

The metal frame on the conservatory is in place and a start has been made on the timber roof beams. We are rather surprised to discover that the walls are  going to be 40 centimetres thick. ' You have to over engineer in these exposed locations ' says the builder.

Nobby wants to check whether 'high value' treats will be on offer in the advertised study. If so, he would be prepared to make the 80 mile journey south to St Andrews to take part. If not, he'd prefer to stay at home. (To be clear, 'high value' means steak or sausages. Cheap dog biscuits and pieces of kibble do not count.)

Fabulous photo of the squall.

Not surprised at the overengineering requirement. We had plans for slatted swivel-out windbreak panels, to match the Russwood cladding on part of our house. Hastily abandoned because of price when it became clear that anything classed as a windbreak in our part of Scotland had to be engineered to withstand hurricane force winds in order to pass Building Control.

Golfer watching could be fun, while watching the chicks learn to fly. Drive safe, save a life.

Nobby is sensible to check the quality of the treats on offer before he sets off on the journey.
It seems that your builder is determined that your conservatory won't blow away at the first hint of a northern gale.

Your storm photo is amazing. Can see that Mum or dad is keeping watch over the chicks from the chimney.

The things people think of to conduct a study! I think of my dogs doing this and I shake my head and chuckle. Your storm photo is gorgeous...cloud drama, rain falling over the sea, sunshine following. Enjoy your day.

I think your doggie friend waiting for someone to ring the doorbell for it was proof positive dogs don't need video to solve a problem. It is instinctual and dogs are smarter than some people. :)

So is the conservatory going to be glass? Or is that the other room? 15 inch glass might be difficult to see through? Back to things I understand...the squall photo is beautiful and I love that signs are posted to encourage people to watch out for the chicks!

By the way, my new old dog is settling in nicely. He learned to use the dog door by watching Osa! No videos necessary.
