Into the New Year

The old year is going out in style with blue skies and another stunning sunrise. From the wee house on the coast we can look back down the bay and  see the towers of St Andrews rising from the morning sea mist. The wind has dropped and the ships that had been sheltering in anchorage have headed back into the North Sea.

A bunch of flowers has blown off a memorial bench onto the sand - an unintended but fitting farewell to the passing year.

This morning even the sand is on fire.  Dog owners pause and take pictures. Their dogs are too busy chasing seagulls to notice.

Over the weekend the kilt makers have been open early. Jackets that fitted perfectly last year have become just a wee bit too snug. Tailors are busy letting things out.

Back at the last wee house before Denmark preparations are finished. The kilt is found. Now it's time to have the jacket pressed.

And so when the magic hour comes may all visitors to this blog be thankful for what 2023 has brought and ready for the excitement of 2024. For those who live in well ordered countries may it be a year blessed with health, wealth and happiness. For friends elsewhere may the New Year bring peace and a life free of fear.

And here is music to usher in 2024.  There are those who say Auld Lang Syne is best sung with a Glasgow accent :https://youtu.be/dGHO8csqyqY?t=137   but we'll welcome in the New Year with this more sedate local version :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74KLtoXy0ig

A glorious sunrise to bid farewell to a year overflowing with beauty and fraught with troubles. Thank you for introducing me to the word "bydand" - "steadfast - not to run away from danger, to keep going whatever the difficulties." It seems to be an appropriate spirit to welcome 2024 and a hope to lift burdens where we can. Wishing a joyous new year to Angus and The Font and all who come here.

What a wonderful way to end this year - a beautiful sunrise and not one, but two, versions of Auld Lang Syne! It seems that the coming year is likely to require steadfastness from all of us, but in this moment, I wish a very happy new year to Angus, the Font and all of those who come here to share.

I always look forward to the warm version of Auld Lang Syne you treated us to years ago, so different from what is heard on the US airwaves as the New Year ball drops. It is still featured on my Boyz' now quiet blog. And thank you Angus for all the stunning bits and pieces of life you share with us every morning. I wish you and the Font and your many followers love, health, and continuing wonder in the year ahead...and a furry soul(s) for you to share them with!!! Joan, Joey (my 17 1/2 old man), and my dear now angel Boyz, Jake and Just Harry.

What a sunrise! And I loved watching the students dancing on the beach. Best wishes to all who visit this small community - may we all remain steadfast in 2024!

PS: is that a wee bit of dog hair on Angus's jacket? Love it!

So far, so good for the New Year from down here in New Zealand - we saw it in with thunder, lightning, and heavy rain but woken to a beautiful day. Thank you for reminding us of all the pleasures to be found each day.
Best wishes to you both :)
