On our way into town we pass cars with their roofs and windscreens covered in fresh snow. Inland it's been bitterly cold overnight and there's been a healthy dump of snow. Out here by the sea it's calm and still the right side of freezing.
We stop to say hello to one of the beach Rangers . He tells us the recent storms have stripped 500,000 cubic meters of sand off the coast and that the level of the beach is now three feet lower than it was before the storms hit. The sea has pushed the dune line back by a good ten feet, much more in some places. ' That's quite something for a weekend storm' .
The bakers once again mesmerizing passers by with their display of robust Scottish delicacies.Yesterdays winter graduation weather was dry and they (just) escaped the rain. It was a very international and happy affair. The solitary policeman shows up just in time to divert the traffic away from the procession. At the 1:12 mark a guy with a fur cloak that must be the envy of every other academic ( although the guy with the fancy hat at 0:20 comes close ) :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP1DkOq_idk

Fisher and Donaldson's fudge doughnuts are legendary among the St Andrews student body, and graduates even make pilgrimages back to St Andrews to buy them.

Mercy me... never mind the cakes themselves, the bakery needs some lessons in window dressing! YAM xx
Window dressing is not their strong suit. Fudge doughnuts sound appalling.
REmind me to visit the bakery when I make it there.
I've not enjoyed a good gingerbread man or even a gingerbread man in a long time. That would have to be my choice for the day.
I watched bits and pieces of the live online auction of the "Scotties by the Sea." I guess you probably know that there was more than one that sold for around £10,000 and higher - But most for around £5,000 to 6,000. Well done.
Kim at G Pines - I was going to bid £5k on the one we wanted but it seems others were more enthusiastic than we were. Anyway, it's all good for the cancer hospice.
Love the movie. Thank you
Thank you for sharing the Commencement footage! I retired in 2016 from working in a university here in the US and Commencement is the one thing I miss the most. The event required an enormous amount of work every.single.time and I was exhausted by the end of the ceremony, but there is nothing like the excitement and enthusiasm of graduating classes.

Angus, I'd wondered if you were going to be one of the bidders. One of my friends was an online bidder, (willing of course to pay to have the Scottie shipped here to the US). She was also outbid, but like all of us, was glad to see the enthusiasm for a good cause.
I am distinctly unmesmerised by the cake display!
Cheers, Gail.
Clearly the lady behind the counter at the bakery has never been to a French Patisserie. Are those the same Gingerbread men from the last time you photographed the underwhelming display?
That's disturbing news about the coastline after the recent storm.
Several times a year we travel up to a "dog beach" near Santa Barbara. A few years ago stormes de-nuded the beach, took a lot of the sand and left lots and lots of rocks. I can happily report that as of last Sunday all of the sand (plus more, I think) has returned. And since it's a small cove, made the beach much smaller. Or maybe that was the high tide since there was a full moon last week. In any event, the beach repaired itself! And it remains beautiful.
