Reindeer and carol #14

A bank of cloud over the town but here on the beach the sky is clear. En route we stop and fill up with petrol. Angus notes that the price is creeping up again.

The dry weather brings out the dog owners. A score of mutts enjoying their start of day adventures. People stop and chat. I'd reckon more than half of the dogs on the sand this morning are wearing collars or harnesses with Christmas lights on them. Having been kept indoors during the long rainy spell all of the dogs are enjoying their freedom and having a 'joy' overload.

In town a gaggle of Chinese tourists are busy having their photos taken outside the cafe where William ( allegedly ) met Kate. We've now seen all of the final episodes of 'The Crown' on Netflix. Considering how St Andrews came to a halt for two weeks this summer it's a surprise how little footage of the place has made it into the final cut.

Our Christmas mince pies are tracked down to a cottage on the main road near the big golf hotel.

Christmas carol #14 . Another old favourite. A haunting Sami Christmas song from the far, far North of Norway sung at a royal wedding. The contrast between the grandeur of the wedding guests and the simplicity of the reindeer herding singer speaks volumes . In this version you even get the winter reindeer calls at the 4:20 mark :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgSad-3qUNs

Stockholm in the snow. Age sensitive humour. If you're twenty this is great fun. If you're rather older you think of broken bones :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDL0VftGBhs

Early mornings in Duthie Park, almost all dogs wear lights on their collars throughout the winter months. A colourful and necessary adornment!
In the video of the Sami singer, I am trying to decide whether the expressions of those listening are telling of solemn respect for their traditions, or of people in an overheated church (see all those fans) wondering how long this is going to go on!
Cheers, Gail.

WFT - I'd guess the latter. The central heating was probably on super boost for the 3 days before the ceremony. Europes bicycling royals seem unimpressed by the exotic harmonies.

I enjoyed the video of the Sami song - the song was beautiful, but the "when worlds collide" vibe was also very interesting. Charlie's so low to the ground that a lighted collar didn't do much good, so we now have a lighted leash. It's red, so I suppose it counts for Christmas lights. The need to clear the living room for the Christmas tree has finally created the motivation to open the remaining boxes from our move. I think our new house will feel more like home once we've got the tree up and decorated with all the familiar favorites.

I don't think the Sami normally mix much with the general populace so it was good to see the singer and her accompanist involved in the wedding ceremony.
Interesting item about reindeer eyes.

Enjoy the morning on the sand, play like someone left the gate open. Be careful on the ice this winter.

Lovely music and interesting feature on the reindeer. That's a very tempting looking assortment from Betty's. I see that more than just mince pies are involved.

I loved the Sami music and appreciated the performer's composure. As a 70-something, the video from Stockholm was frightening! YIKES! How do people walk around? Remember, I live in Los Angeles. I have difficulty walking in mud!!

About Stockholm in the snow --- I'm 84, my husband almost 89. Guess who would be thinking of broken bones. 😊

As I've said before, thank you so much for continuing to write. I read you every day.
