The end of English.

A front page story in the local paper saying that French will overtake English as the worlds most widely spoken language by 2050. The accompanying article is short on facts.

The papers readers also learn that the Swedish King and Queen are coming on a State visit to Paris. A multi-coloured map shows where Sweden is in relation to France. Next to it a photograph of the Swedish King looking decidedly glum. The Queen and the two Princesses are standing beside him smiling bravely in what appear to be costumes designed by Disney World. '' Bet they won't wear them in Paris " comments 'The Font'.

The fancy baker has been making use of his colourings. Angus buys four cakes and takes them home. Bob and Sophie are given slivers of shortbread. The 'religieuse violette' a talking point.

2050? At least SHE won't have to worry......

But, we think the International language might be Mandarin.. 'The Font' will be all set....Swedish, English, French, and maybe Mandarin?

Hmmm. Wishful thinking in La Depeche.
That cake reminds me of Parma violets. Are they still sold?
Cheers, Gail.

Perhaps the fancy baker is up on his current events. The pastries appear to be colored to match the Swedish/Disney country attire.
All is well as long as Bob and Sophie are given their taste.

Even with my cake obsession I think I would have to draw the line at the purple ones, bit too Nigel Farage for my tastes !

I'm not as much about presentation as I am taste, but I *might* have been if I were offered the religieuse violette.

Also, is it just me or do the outfits worn by the Queen and Princesses almost match the pastries? Perhaps that photo was the inspiration?

The expression on the little girl's face pretty much sums up this rather unfortunate sartorial choice.

Yes, the young Duchess of Ostergotland does not look happy !

Thank goodness the ancestors left sweeden. I could have been wearing one of those 'hats'...wait would need to be royalty! I would have to pass on the pastry with the blue icing....

Have to agree .

Don't know about Parma violets but violet creams ( as favoured by my grandmother ) are a big thing around Toulouse.

French shopkeepers are commercial enough to realize that a treat to a dog = a sale to a customer .

I ended up eating it. Sweet but just the right side of being inedible.

The Font tells me every Swedish region has a folk dress. As to whether everyone wears them is another question. Why don't the menfolk wear theirs ?

Angus said...

Yes. It seems that the hats are a 'royal' thing.

Maybe he doesn't like the sons-in-laws who have very forced smiles in the photos? If the Duchess of Ostergotland and her MorFar are not happy..ain't nobody happy!

The fancy baker has really outdone himself even if it was sweet but just the right side of being inedible....Angus you do have a way with words and you sure do know how to make me burst out laughing heartily.
