Be aware !

It won't be long before it's time for the PONs to have a major trim. Faced with Sophie's impenetrable coat the rechargeable trimmers we bought struggle to cope. Next week we'll go and buy a set of heavy duty ones that work off the mains . The thickness of Sophie's coat is a useful trait if you're herding sheep and worried about being attacked by Polish wolves. Not so useful if you're an owner hoping to make your female PON look respectable.

Tomorrow is annual check up day. Bob, who sits frozen with terror on the examination table, will go in first. Sophie, who thinks the vets are adoring fans and soaks up the attention, will go in second. Such different characters. Be aware ! While making the appointment the vet said that this is causing a spate of deaths among local farm dogs : http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/blue-green-algae/

In the meantime the diva's morning is spent trying to teach the yogurt pot to refill itself.

Will people 100 years from now view our medical practices as being equally barbarous ? :

You can take the child out of France but you can't..... These LA kids could only be French : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuZZR3uscjA

I have absolutely no doubt that in a hundred years time, in ways we cannot currently envisage, humans will be looking back at aspects of our society (not only medical) in horror and wonder how we ever tolerated such terrible practices.
Meanwhile, wishing Bob and Sophie all the best for their health check.
Cheers, Gail.

Yes, good luck for the Vet visit tomorrow, especially for poor Bob - lots of treats afterwards for the poor little chap. Sophie won't need our commiserations, and maybe someone at the vet's will know how to refill that darned yogurt pot !

As far as I know cyanobacteria poisoning is a summer problem. The temperature range at which the cyanobacteria blooms and produces toxins is fairly narrow. I blogged about it last summer:
Cyanobacteria in the Western Loire. Local river swimming holes have been closed for several weeks over the summer the last two years.

Seems to be happening here due to a combination of the warm wet weather and some new chemical usage ( strange as we are supposedly an organic zone ). Will find out more tomorrow.

Quelle jolie chanson! Great article, too. The chemicals and the technology may change, but every age has its barbarism. YAM xx

Seeing Sophie’s tongue in the bottom of the yogurt pot was adorable! I will be thinking of brave Bob tomorrow as he visits his Vet.

Apple and Andrew go in together. Safety in numbers.
We just got back from the vet ... Andrew's next booster jab.
He's gained 4 pounds in one week!

4 lbs in a week! He's going to be a big boy. These are magic times with a dog - all oversized paws and unbridled enthusiasm about everything.

Thank you. Bob needs all the support and encouragement he can get !

When my Bassett hound was a puppy, he would hide under the chair in the Vet’s examining room. As he grew he would wedge as much of himself as possible under the same chair. We had to pick the chair up to get to him. This went on for the rest of his 14 years.

Indeed.
And he has "liberated" sooo many shoelaces from their bondage.
