Up with the old ....

A huge storm last night. Lots of clattering and banging but no rain. Sophie sleeps through it. Bob takes an executive decision and settles down in the ( out of bounds ) bedroom.

In a changing world one thing you can be sure of......

..... at first light the PONs will be in the kitchen enthusiastic to get their day started.

Today, on our pre-breakfast tour of the village we find a group of workmen hard at work in front of the church. They are digging up all the old gravel and replacing it with identical new gravel. Angus wonders what the point of this is but decides it's probably better not to ask.

Yesterday afternoon, in the field by the village hall, another group of workmen installed a pole with a solar panel on top. This morning Angus, Bob and Sophie wander up for a closer look. Try as we might there appears to be no rhyme nor reason for its existence. There is a small downward  facing light under the solar panel. Perhaps it's there to illuminate the picnic table ? I shall ask the mayor when he returns from his holiday in the mountains.  In the meantime Bob carefully christens the new installation.

The greengrocers have small egg like vegetables on sale. From their size, shape and colour we deduce they must be the original variety of eggplant.

Not a poem you'd find being taught in an English primary school : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lO5gG7ZzQ8

Not sure what to make of this : https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/company-makes-food-out-of-thin-air-using-co2/

Rousing stuff for the wee small morning hour. We (I speak for the town in this capacity!) have been through a day and night of the most incredible rain - and that is saying something for a town that goes through a lot of rain. Likely the same 'front' as hit your end. Yes, reaffirming, those are eggplant... and now you have us all scratching our heads as to the purpose of the solar light! YAM xx

Young Euan from St. Culumbkille has quite captured my heart -- even if I can understand only one word in ten.

Rousing stuff indeed from young Euan. You are right that this poem would not be taught in an English primary school. Although, as an Englishwoman who has now lived (and worked and studied) in Scotland for over twenty years, I can't help but think that the fact that many Scots are apparently drip fed this sort of material from a young age contributes to some of the less attractive aspects of Scottish nationalism feeding into the current political discourse...
Cheers! Gail.

A different angle to view the the church! I feel as if we are spying on the workmen! The pole with solar panel is really a new age basketball goal for giants.

Rabbie Burns at his best.

There again certain English politicians seem delighted at the thought of an independent country to their north. You'd think they might understand that their nearest neighbour - and the only one thy share a land border with - is a country they might wish to learn about .

Giant basketball players would seem a logical rationale for the installation of this weird and wonderful new device !
