A rare appearance.

Covid and impeachment the top stories on the morning radio broadcast. Plus ca change. Down by the river we stop to watch the swans and put the world to rights. Then, after breakfast, it's time to head across the fields to the stream for a drink.

A change in the weather. After the cold and rain of the last few weeks there's a hint of warmth in the air.

Sophie takes up her ' I'm the first line of defence ' position at the front door. This 'nose out, rump in' position works well in the summer. Having the front door wide open is less practical  in the winter.

Some workmen come to look at the wooden beams that have rotted on the old weigh station. The new mayor is also there. A rare daytime appearance for him.

No less than four contrails in the sky. A year ago this wouldn't have been worthy of comment. Now I stand in the garden gawping upwards at these signs of normality. They're all running SW to NE so presumably flights from Spain to Germany ? The mundane things one notices after a year of pandemic lockdown. Local villagers passing on the lane must assume that we don't see many aircraft contrails in Scotland. Either that or they assume Angus is sixpence short of a shilling. The sort of man who sits on the storm drain and chats away to his fluffy companion. 'The Font' won't be drawn on which they will think is the more plausible explanation.

Angus has ordered fifty peonies. They should have been delivered from Paris two days ago. Instead, they've been delivered to an unsuspecting family in Bordeaux. A day of getting on the phone to the peony supplier awaits.

Love your first photo!

What clearly defined contrails - the few in the sky above us here are fractured and disappear quickly.
Will the unsuspecting recipients of the peonies return them, or look on them as a welcome surprise gift!
How was the cake, Angus?

Beautiful first photo (magnificent) and we notice the stream has suddenly cleared of silt. The must make it taste a whole lot better.

That first photograph is a stunner, but I also loved the contrails. That log in the stream has taken on a life of its own in the blog.

Ah, I remember contrails...

Was startled the other evening at sunset to see a contrail heading due east. Wondered if it was a lone flight to Europe or perhaps only a military plane is more likely. The first photo of Sophie standing by the misty river is lovely.

funny you should mention contrails today - only yesterday, for the first time in an age, I spotted a plane flying over the Hutch with a lovely long trail glimmering in the icy sun... I gasped and ran for the camera! YAM xx

The first photo holds a sense of mystery in its beauty.

As long as someone enjoys the peonies. We sense that the French may be deemed unreliable.
