Perfect.

The sun is out, the sky is clear, the breeze is on the temperate side of bracing. The stoats have left tasty calling cards in the long grass. Can a day be too perfect ? Later this morning the PONette will be loaded into the back of the car and driven into town in search of Jaffa Cakes.

The kitchen designers have come up with a quote that is eye watering. I'd expected a kitchen to be pricey. I hadn't expected it to be three times what we paid for a much bigger kitchen in France.  It is spec'd to the hilt with appliances that neither of us knew existed - let alone asked for. At some stage dishwashers stopped being free standing and were integrated into hip height drawers. The designers want a 50% deposit but can't start work until late summer. Angus thinks this timetable might change as the economy slows and 'cancellations' occur. Time might make their 'take it or leave it' haughtiness move in inverse proportion to interest rates. 'The Font' will tell them to scale back their proposal. Having an intelligent kitchen is one thing but too much hitech may test the limits of our 'intelligence'.

Somebody looks bathed and brushed and beautiful.

Oh heavens! Three times! That sounds to me like they think you're good for a a "special price"!! My son and DIL are doing their kitchen, and are being encouraged to include a large "Wine Fridge" ... taking up way more space than is justified by the amount of white wine they drink. But I'm 'zipping it", as it's not my kitchen and I'm not paying for it.

A beautiful morning - another best day ever for Sophie. - imagine - a hunt for Jaffa cakes. What more could a Ponette want!
Dread to think what an eye watering price a hi-tech kitchen costs these days. Have they invented a dishwasher that unloads itself, puts everything away, and answers the doorbell yet!

Having considered a couple of more upmarket and bespoke options when I had the Torridon cottage kitchen remodelled a couple of years ago I opted instead for Howdens and have been very happy with the result. Just a thought!
Cheers, Gail.

Such a pretty place, such a happy puppy. Having recently finished a kitchen replacement, I have to say, it cost twice what I expected. Ask for what you want. The experiences I am hearing on "smart appliances" are not smart. I really don't want to rely on Windows to operate my refrigerator. We love you new kitchen.

Had a dish drawer dishwasher in one home and it was a bit useless.

Having tech appliances - more things to go wrong in my opinion - just my opinion.

Kitchen remodels here *start* at about $15,000, however, I'm not sure how much 'intelligence' that includes in the appliances. My goal is to just have double ovens.

I'm really enjoying the photos of Sophie that are postcard perfect!

I should think an Aga would be a must -- low tech and ultra reliable. I couldn't live without mine. Is the old Traditional model still available in U.K.? I wouldn't have an electric one if I were paid! Echoing others' suspicions about "intelligent" appliances, too.

Your beautiful weather mirrors ours here in eastern Ontario!

The very best thing about someone else's reality (kitchen designer et al quotes).
Sophie's world ...which I love.

Sophie is having a great hair day! Pretty girl. As far as the kitchen people: in US, if you order a anything, pay a ton of money up front and wait 6 months and I've heard of a year. Infuriating? Sure! The biggest lesson of Covid is corporate GREED.

What a lovely picture of Sophie with fur blowing in the wind. I also live in eastern Ontario and it is difficult to get reliable trades people. I found when I moved here from Toronto that if the company/person didn't really want the job they gave a ridiculously high quote. It is best to get several quotes if you can. Now that the economy is slowing down there are quite a few companies/people on our local Trades Facebook group that now have openings for interior and exterior jobs. Good luck with the hunt for Jaffa cakes. I had to look them up on line.

50% is ridiculous, 10% is more than fair.

All the reasonable tradespeople are working on the golf club!

Thirding Howden's!

I know a lady on the East Coast who waited over half a year for her Aga to be delivered. It cost 20K and was delivered damaged and had to be returned. The replacement might arrive as early says next May.
It seems all tradespeople are heavily booked in America. I had to wait a couple of weeks to get a plumber to fix a kitchen sink
Thank goodness the Font can deal with the overpriced kitchen contractors. Maybe time to get a second bid from Howdens?
