After yesterdays sunshine this morning starts off squally. ... as in 60 mph squally. Sophie is happy with a twenty minute pre-breakfast walk when it's warm and sunny. When the weathers bad she's always keen to stay out for an hour .... or longer. Go figure.
The PONette decides today is a day for lingering in the arctic gale. It's a joyous sniff every blade of grass day . My fluffy companion is 'encouraged' back home. Sophie has many ways of looking at you ... each has a specific purpose and is unmistakable. Todays look is that ' We've only just come out !' look. Canine communication takes many forms.
Progress with the tradesmen . The curtains will be ready in a month. The electrician and the plumber finally say they will be here next week after the Scottish school mid-term holidays. This afternoon there is a Zoom call with the architect. His best guess is that building permits will take six to nine months to come through. The architect feels confident work will start in ten months time. Plans to build a glass outhouse overlooking the sea have been put on hold - for the time being - the style may be a little too adventurous for this part of the world - https://www.trombe.co.uk/ .
The soil in the garden is rock solid. After much back breaking digging the peonies have gone in as have the alliums. I'd ordered some buddleias ( they will grow anywhere - even the windy Scottish coast ) and the nursery gave me 100 free daffodil bulbs as a thank you. The heavy sack of bulbs was packed in the same box as the buddleias. Guess what ? The bulbs moved around during transit and flattened all the trees. Angus feels like telling the nursery this is a moronic thing to do but contents himself with asking for a refund.
Today we go in search of some pots. The selection is limited to those that will survive being outside in a Scottish winter. This narrows down our options .
'The Font' wonders when Angus is going to wash the car. He points out that he'd taken it to the car wash yesterday. Lesson - don't buy a shiny black car if you live half a mile down an unpaved farm track.

You ain't seen nothing yet!
I remember those 'artic gales' from our time in Alaska - They certainly can and do open up your sinuses. I guess they must be doing the same for Sophie. And I have the same issue with my new car, which is about the same color because it's expected that a new car should be kept clean.

YM - A Land Rover popped up in the conversation over dinner. Most people don't need them. I have a feeling a Defender might be just the thing here. Having said that they're not the easiest thing to park in North Street.
Possibly starting work in 9 or 10 months, time to order kitchen appliances to get what you really want (compromises took 5 months to arrive.) Enjoy the bracing weather.
I'd like that glass structure. I think it beautifully adds modern to an old building. But I realize that I can be eccentric at times. Perhaps a different solution with lots of windows will be more achievable.
It's wonderful to see how quickly Sophie adapted to her new environment. She seems to enjoy the cooler temperatures too.
At least one of you is thrilled with the weather! Look forward to seeing photos of Sophie disappearing into a gigantic snowdrift!
If you lived nearer Angus, you could have had my 2€ car wash voucher - I've had it for ages but not used it, and it expires next week!
I like the glass structures too, but not sure how one would fit into your house design - it needs to be sympathetic. There's also the practical element too - will it be easy to heat and who's going to clean it!
Love the first photo of Sophie. Have you considered purchasing Volvo front & rear mud flaps, as well as rubber floor mats for the front (for any winter muddy wet shoes) to reduce how often the Font thinks you might need to clean the car?
