Differential grooming.

Good morning from Sophie who is devoting her day to finding out just how much water and sand her fur can absorb. Yesterday, the fur on her front legs proved resistant to combing and was trimmed. This ' focus on one small area at a time' grooming technique may be rolled out to other parts of her anatomy as the weather warms up. It was over and done before she could complain.

Overnight the clocks have changed . The beach empty. Other dog owners still seem to be tucked up safe and warm inside. It's just as possible that they've looked out of the window and decided to defer their morning beach excursion until the weather improves.

We walk a mile down the beach and a mile back up it without seeing another soul. Back at the good coffee cafe we pass the flower window. There's a new vase and some cheerful tulips  but the term papers on the table seem not to have moved. Perhaps they're not term papers but draft chapters for a book ? A grey Tesla draws up and parks on the other side of the road. These were a relatively rare sight but seem to have become much more common place over the last six months.

Looking at the sky I'd say the chances are 50-50 but if the weather improves Sophie will be taken down to the harbour before lunch to see her first Sunday pier walk :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cotr-ULXk4

I favour drafts for a book, since university assignments in the UK are now all submitted online by students through an anti-plagiarism portal with the wonderful name of "Turnitin", and marked and returned online. If it's a book, it's needing a long gestation!
Yes, Teslas are becoming ten a penny up here in NE Scotland. A phrase I memorably overheard in Edinburgh University's Staff Club in the mid-80s, uttered by a professor's wife: "When my husband was made a professor it meant something. Now they're ten a penny"...

A little at a time is proving to be the best grooming approach for Nobby, should his human wish to avoid hand injury.
We look forward to seeing how Sophie reacts to her first St Andrews pier walk. And how the pier walkers react to Sophie.

I wonder if the occupants of the house with the 'flower window' realise they feature in Angus's blog?
The pier walk looks fun. Every institution has its peculiar traditions.

I expect there is at least twice as much fur as Sophie under it. Worth her weight in sand and seawater.

The bright tulips and vase provide a welcome jolt of color on a cold and grey Scottish morning. The book chapters idea is intriguing. We all love a mystery.

The cheery jug is perfect for the flower colors. I think the alstroemeria is from the rose bouquet. Angus is on to something with the bit at a time grooming. I’m dog sitting a friend’s Husky who does not like to be brushed, but REALLY needs it. One brush stroke at a time… Best wishes to Gail for safe grooming of Nobby.

Oh dear, I don't think Sophie would be quite so happy if she knew that a grooming was on the horizon.
Strange that someone takes so much care, and obvious pleasure in the flowers and their arrangements, but lets those papers fester away in the background. These days, surely even books are written on the computer, so the papers remain a mystery. Perhaps Angus could knock on the door one day and ask - just to satisfy our curiosity?

All the students in the video have American accents. What's up with that? (A Valley Girl expression.)
