A Dutch Porsche.

The motorway is busy at six thirty.  Folks from the North hurtling to the beaches for three weeks vacation. Yesterday, a group of half a dozen pilgrims wandered through the village. Their brief appearance doubled the number of visitors we've seen this year. The new French Prime Minister was on the radio saying that if case numbers continue to rise there will need to be a second lockdown. No way the economy could survive that . It would mark the end of so many hotels and restaurants and all those other things that make France, France.

A silver Porsche with Dutch number plates drives slowly through the village on Sunday evening. Its engine gurgles as the driver accelerates over each of the three speed bumps. That, in a French village in high summer, is what passes for news.

The temperature is forecast to hit the mid 40's this week. This morning is supposed to be bright and sunny but clouds have blown in from the Bay of Biscay. They look dark and threatening  but only serve to make everything hot and muggy.  Sophie spends longer than usual sploshing in the much diminished stream . She is a lady who enjoys cool paws.

We go to the cafe in the shopping centre for a restorative Monday morning croissant. Angus and Sophie stand outside until the queue has disappeared. Todays croissant a miserly 4.5/10. Looks the part but inside like white processed loaf. Sophie devours her curly ends with gusto. She also chases three sparrows that have perched on the neighbouring table and are looking longingly at the croissant crumbs.

The cake selection is uninspiring. We lave without a purchase. Sophie simply cannot understand why this should be so.

Over dinner The Font wonders how many folks in the music industry must be suffering from no work during the lockdown : https://youtu.be/_FVK_N3xX04?t=10

This place comes recommended but I have no idea where Edison or Kenfdall Park are ( off the Parkway ?) but they serve 'immunity boosters'  which must be a first : https://www.moghulexpress.com/

I'm with Sophie - I think I could somehow tolerate that raspberry tart. Of course, I was raised in New Jersey, where the culinary standards were not that high, although now it seems we have Moghul Express, which looks pretty good. Maybe it's the turmeric that makes it an immunity booster? In any event, we New Jerseyans are very proud of Edison, as it is where Thomas Alva Edison had his Menlo Park lab and invented the light bulb. Edison does not, unfortunately, have its own Parkway exit, but shares Exit 127 with Staten Island. (I have learned not to be surprised when you demonstrate a detailed knowledge of various parts of the US, but the Parkway?) Meanwhile, here in Tokyo, the cicadas made their annual debut this morning - I felt unreasonably happy to hear them singing in the tree outside our building.

The coffee and croissant would appear to be social distancing on the breakfast tray...
I too could be happy with at least one of those cake offers.
Cheers! Gail.

...and I do believe Angus yet again fails to understand the attraction of a flan patissiere to one such as myself... YAM xx

I agree, I wouldn't turn my nose up at the raspberry flan! Indeed, I could probably be tempted by strawberry tart too. Inca is in agreement with you all, and me, on this!
It's always good to know that Sophie, at least, does not judge the croissant by it's inside - the curly ends are probably better anyway!

We may be required to make an eight hour drive down to PA later this week in order to wrap up details of my MIL's estate. A trip I'm dreading. We usually absolutely tear through NJ on the run down or bypass it altogether. However, The Moghul looks like an excellent place to stop for lunch and boost my immunity! Thanks to Lisa and Angus for the direction info and tips. Once again, the camaraderie, fun facts, and good will of this blog is a delight.

PSS: Dottie dog and I agree that we would happily take a nibble out of anything in that display case, but the fruity ones look particularly inviting.

Dire times for everyone in the Arts. Social distancing between the croissant and coffee?
