Enclosed spaces

High summer. Already warm, borderline hot, at six. An aircraft contrail in the sky overhead - a sign that Toulouse airport is operating again . After  Fridays mishap ' The Font' sleeps well.  The schools having opened have now closed for the holidays so there's no school bus.  At this time of the morning Sophie and her master have the village to themselves.

Or, to be more precise, they have the village to themselves bar the seven kittens who can be seen lying sunbathing on the lawn by the juniper tree. Sophie is hurried out of the gate before she sees what's going on.

In the photo the eagle eyed might just see a blur of white shaggy fur heading down the hill towards the lake.  This morning not even the pretence of checking that Angus is following along behind. There is a world to explore and minnows to fish for.  Isn't life wonderful ? Later there will be a curly croissant end .

On the village green a scarecrow has arrived. We've never seen one on the village green before. Presumably something to do with the new mayor getting in touch with his rural roots ? Sophie sniffs the scarecrows shoes but is unimpressed,

I'd been thinking of flying back to London for a day to see the jaunty surgeon in his Pringle sweater. The weekends photos of drunk Londoners celebrating the end of lockdown gives me pause for thought. Alcohol and social distancing don't really go together. This article puts me off enclosed, air conditioned spaces :  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/04/health/239-experts-with-one-big-claim-the-coronavirus-is-airborne.html

This article was a shocker. Now everyone's going to have to focus more carefully on ventilation. There are claims that ventilation on planes is actually quite good, but I agree, it's hard to feel too comfortable about flying right now. I've just bought a Tokyo-Columbus ticket for my son so he can return to campus mid-August, but I am really wondering whether the schools will actually go forward as planned. At least you and the Font can hopefully feel secure with all that open space around you (apart from errant mechanics).

Bertie says: Oh come on Angus, you might at least TRY to keep up!
Gail thinks the scarecrow is almost chic. She is not planned to fly anywhere anytime soon.

I've been put off going into enclosef air-conditioned spaces unnecessarily after lockdown for another reason... my sister-in-law, who works in the health sector, told me there has been an increase in legionnaires disease, which can/has be fatal here as people return to buildings where the aircon has been off for a ages and don't remember to service things. Then again a sealed bag of garden mix or compost can be equally dangerous!

I have ALWAYS been wary of air-con places, knowing full well their propensity for spreading stuff about. Funny how old knowledge becomes new when there's another bug about... and 'experts' get involved. Sophie has the right idea - run wild in vast open air!!! YAM xx
