Refraction

The court case between the man with anger management issues and the German billionaires builder has been set for August in the Departmental capital. The villagers are taking sides. Those who work on the German chateau on one side, those who don't on the other. To avoid being drawn into this village dispute we adopt looks of blank incomprehension and statements along the lines of ' Oh! This legal stuffs far too complicated for us '. So far our neutrality has been maintained.

Sophie spends some time trying to fish for minnows in the stream. She watches them closely then pounces. Refraction is a concept that she fails to understand. The minnows are safe from the PON fishing technique. Entirely safe. Sophie makes snuffles on intense frustration. PONs, it must be said, are not quiet dogs.

The herd of cows  in the field in the valley seem to be content.  I count twenty calves there this morning. The mothers lie basking in the sun. A just reward for their labours.

Afterwards a trip to the modern cafe for a croissant. Sophie gets an ear crunch from the girl behind the counter who brings her a bowl of water. Sophie ignores the girl and focuses on the croissant.

The family diva has a bite on her paw. Probably from a spider. Later this morning 'The Font' will take her down to the vet to make sure it's nothing serious. How wonderful it is to have a dog who actually enjoys going to the vet. Sophie remains convinced that the vets are adoring fans waiting to greet her.

Sweden doesn't have great record on C19 but this was interesting : https://news.ki.se/immunity-to-covid-19-is-probably-higher-than-tests-have-shown

I hope the bite proves inconsequential and that Sophie enjoys her visit to the vet - Cherry had the same happy attitude until just recently - one too many procedures I guess. Following on your link yesterday, I saw in the Financial Times today that a biotech company in Edinburgh is about to begin a trial of T-cell therapy - Scotland leading the way! Today in Tokyo, the count of new cases is up to 67. It's still a small number but it does keep going up. The city government has been testing more aggressively in the red light district's "host bars" and they blame the numbers on that, but I don't think we'll know much more until after Sunday's gubernatorial election.

I think it's very unlikely Sophie's bite is from a spider. Since only a few species in France can give you a nip, and only one (not very common and non-native) can break human skin, it's unlikely any of them can pierce a dog's foot area. There is a lot of absolute nonsense on the internet about spider bites. I think it is more likely she was stung by something -- bumble bee, social wasp, honey bee.

One day surely, by sheer fluke, Sophie will actually catch a minnow. And then what will she do?
Hoping here too that her paw bite is nothing serious.

But M'Ongoose, you haven't given us today's croissant score!

Thank you for the interesting news from Sweden. It looks like a reliable source so we have shared it around work. We hope Sophie's paw gets better quickly, there are vets and vets so it is good she has one she likes.

The cows and calves are sweet in their field. Love the view of the back garden, it is looking very pretty.

The cows and their calves are, in their way, a reassuring sight.
I'm on the side of the man with anger management issues. I know you'll keep us posted on the proceedings.

Sometimes the 'smiling foreigner' strategy comes in handy.

I am also looking for the score!
My first ever croissant was in Paris and since then none have ever compared. Was just wondering what points the score was given on ;-)
