Not all is lost.

Angus bites down  on a cherry stone and cracks a tooth. Today he'll be celebrating his birthday by going to the local dentist for some emergency treatment. His planned dinner of steak will be replaced with super soft pasta. Not all is lost. The bottle of Sassicaia will remain a key ingredient of the celebrations.

Sophie climbs into the back of the car and looks happy. She looks even happier as she chases field mice and other invisible things ( ineptly ) through the sunflower fields.

Here in France the first day of mandatory mask wearing in public places goes well. 95% acceptance. Those that don't wear masks are forgetful rather than libertarian.  Not all is smooth sailing . 25% of mask wearers seem to have difficulty understanding that the mask should cover both nose and mouth. Hopefully, the understanding that the nose should be covered will become more widespread.

Warning ! Rugby club language. This video from Huntington Beach gives an insight into Americas mask wars : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q3PSISAZL8&feature=youtu.be

Happiest of Birthday Greetings ANGUS! Cracked tooth and all.........to be soothed by the sipping of the Sassicaia, the super soft pasta prepared by the Font, and the company of the very svelte and trim Mlle. SOPHIE. We raise our glass to you - from the Westcoast of Canada.

I'm so sorry to hear about your tooth. It sounds like the kind of thing that must be good luck in some culture - like the idea it's lucky if it rains on your wedding day. I hope the rest of your day goes much better, all the way through the Sassicaia. Sophie looks very fetching today, and we are taking to heart your comment yesterday that losing three kilos has done her good. Cherry has managed to gain some additional weight lately with more people at home to give her treats, and with her current short cut, it's very obvious. The vet read us the riot act, so we are trying . . . I loved the video from Huntington Beach. I wonder if things will change in the US now that Trump has decided it's patriotic to wear a mask (or at least he thought so for one brief moment in time).

Happy Birthday Angus. Wishing you many happy returns, and that you and "The Font" both enjoy every sip of Sassicaia with your revised birthday dinner. Cheers!

Happy Birthday Angus. Enjoy the wine! Too bad about the tooth. I hope the baker will have some tasty soft cakes on offer today.
Here Aberdeen, compliance with the rule to wear a face mask/covering in shops seems to be extremely high, although one might question the efficacy of some of the coverings.
Cheers, Gail.

Happy birthday - sucks about the tooth.

I watched the video. Amazing. I am glad I live a long way away from people like that.

Oh Angus - what rotten luck, a cracked tooth, and on your birthday of all days! However, I'm sure you'll still have an enjoyable celebration this evening - the wine will certainly help!
This morning I took Inca to the vet to have her teeth scaled and cleaned. It's done under anaesthetic, so no breakfast! I'm sure you'll know the disapproving looks I was getting and that "Have you forgotten my breakfast?" reminder!
Tomorrow we know all know will be better and gearing up for a best day ever!

I'd always thought of Huntington Beach as RAND territory. Seems I was wrong.

Thank you.

Adherence to regulations is very Calvinist. I wonder if its followed with such dedication in Glasgow ?

Agreed. We are all lucky to be well away from folks like that.

Ot's the last appointment of the day so I'm hoping the dentist will want to get home early.

I have opened it to give it all the afternoon to breath. This also takes my mind off going to see a French dentist. I have no idea what to expect and can only hope my knowledge of tooth vocabulary is all it might be.

100% agree !

Happy Birthday Angus. Enjoy the wine. My girlfriend lives in Washington State and works at Fred Myers. Her coworker just had a gun pulled on her after politely asking a man to please wear a mask. The USA is a mess right now.

Don't know what's happened in the 46 years since I lived there....so many 'It's-all-about-me Prima Donnas' these days.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy the pasta--you can have a second steak celebration later.
