A Monday in July.

Cloudy and humid. When we get down to the little waterfall we discover it's slowed to a trickle. Three years ago there was so little rain it dried up completely. Another couple of weeks like this and it may happen again. Angus makes a mental note to cut back on the irrigation system to spare the well water. Sophie has to step gingerly on the stones that line the stream bed in order to find a spot for a long slurrpy drink. Lots and lots of snail shells down here. Some animal of bird must  feast on them during the night.

The sunflowers coming into bloom. By tomorrow they'll be fully out. Today they have that spiky alien like appearance that wouldn't be out of place in War of the Worlds.

Tomorrow is the July 14th holiday. The motorway abnormally busy with Parisians heading south to the coast. In fact we've never seen the motorway so busy. Seems that post lockdown people are taking Monday and the rest of the week off .

Along the field boundaries the thistles are just about to up their game  ...

.... while the last of the poppies are just fading away in the heat.

I'd hoped that by now we might know the outcome of the Polish Presidential election but it's on a knife edge. Duda's leading with a slender majority. On our walk back up towards the ridge we pass a field of cows. They watch us wander by. Sophie picks up her pace and moves so that Angus is positioned between her and these beasts. As all divas know when it comes to animals larger than yourself you can never be too careful.

This tired me out just looking at it :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-LkbsFpC7I

Rarer than rubies. A podcast done properly - brief, no 'uhms' or 'you knows', look at the screen to make the viewer feel involved, background muted. Not sure Nikki Hayley would agree - https://fivethirtyeight.com/videos/confidence-interval-could-trump-win-if-he-replaces-pence/

Alien sunflowers and thistle's, both kind of strange and lovely. I also enjoyed the deep fake video and look forward to listening to the podcast. You are right, too many of them, even otherwise very good ones, are just too long. This campaign is just about to hit that stage where I begin checking five thirty eight obsessively, so maybe this is a hint that it's time.

Waiting anxiously here for the Polish result, with fingers still crossed for Warsaw's mayor.

Ahhhh, sunflower time. A little period of visual heaven to distract the mind from the nonsense of the world. YAM xx

Thunder and lightening last night, followed by a quick downpour, leaving everything caked in muddy dust.
Love the sunflowers, but they do look slightly alien!
Even a fake Tom Cruise would be preferable to the real Trump!

We love the War of the Worlds sunflowers too. A sure sign of the end of summer, and the changing of the seasons.
