Westerly breezes.

First decision of the day. Left into the village, right along the track to the salt pond or straight on to the sea ? This morning we opt to go right. This enables Sophie to chase the crows who have been feeding on the grass verges. Nothing quite like chasing crows to get a girls day off on the right foot. She skips with delight. Every so often she stops and gives me a ' Do keep up !' look.

We head off into town for our start of day coffee and oatmeal biscuit. Angus is tasked with returning some fabric samples to the curtain makers who start early . The curtain maker also sells 'knick knacks'. The wee shop has all sorts of dog mugs but none with Polish Lowlands. Ceramic fruit and exotic vases also seem to be a large part of their business. There clearly is a retail demographic based on a 'I'll have some curtains and a couple of mugs ' .

Angus has been prewarned about the cost of the curtains. He is  amazed at the price but is under strict instructions not to say anything. ' They don't want to hear your views on inflation or the Prime Minister. Just drop off the swatches and come home '.

Do you still , knowingly or unknowingly, socially distance ? This article says 10% of the US population chose to do so : https://www.nber.org/papers/w30568#fromrss

Somehow a puffin seems to have intruded onto the dog mug shelf.
Nobby and I were Arbroath yesterday, meeting a couple of friends from Bristol University days. One (a former boyfriend) had just dropped his son off at St Andrews, where he's entering his final year at the university. During lunch, son sends his Dad a photo of the 'traditional' foam fight. Apparently shaving foam sold out in the town several days ago!

Perhaps it is that the lucrative curtain creations arose from being the homewares shop of the town? That's more than a simple catch 'em at the till display. And don't get me started on inflation; real-world experience - in placing my bi-monthly store cupboard restock yesterday, all the same stuff pretty much every time, what cost me £48 in August has turned into £73. I make that a 50% hike.

...and definitely have kept the world at distance and am grateful that I can place that order delivered to my door without having to go mingle. YAM xx

Chasing crows - now there's a hobby that we're sure Sophie will excel at! I do hope you manage to keep up Angus - they say that running is the best form of exercise!
No idea how much made-to-measure curtains cost these days in the UK. I always enjoyed making my own, when we had a superb fabric warehouse a short distance away. It sold fabric which at full price cost the proverbial arm and a leg, at bargain prices. These days I go into the local fancy homeware shops and pick up ready-mades, I just have to turn the hems up. So much easier.
Thank you to all of you who sent special wishes to us on Inca's birthday - they were very much appreciated. Sadly, we didn't get to the beach, so our celebrations were low-key - just extra treats and cuddles.

Coppa's girl and Inca - we missed your comment on this blog yesterday, and just want to send Inca very special birthday wishes, and hugs to you both.

Emma Bridgewater mugs... The two I have with Golden Retrievers, a thoughtful gift from (you) a longtime blogging friend, and a favorite for tea.

I find crows very fascinating, and the fact that a group of them is called 'a murder' makes them even more so, because it's said they are sometimes deciding the 'fate' of one of the group who they will murder.

Some things we just don't want to see the price of. Looks like another wonderful morning, enjoy!

The curtains we had made to measure at John Lewis for our UK house in about 2005 are still hanging - two different owners later! They cost a small fortune but were worth every penny.

It's only money.
Thanks for the shop photo. Makes it so much easier to go there with you , in my mind.
Sophie at the gate a painting worthy photo.

Well, I see Inca and Charlie both represented in the mug display - and some of Kim's friends, but alas, no Nobby, Otto nor Sophie. Inca, treats and cuddles are a wonderful way to spend a birthday!

The light there along your northern coast is spectacular. I'm looking forward to seeing in as the sun stays closer to the horizon. The photo of Miss Sophie with the long shadows is beautiful.

Probably best to do as Font says. She is after all a fount of knowledge and shops wisely.
We are watching our pennies here. Everything has gone up in price, including dog grooming. Kippy poodle may not look like perfection after I groom her at home, but she’s not said anything.
