Vanishing aloofness.
Bob is ambivalent about having visitors. They interrupt his routine. This judgement is balanced by the belief that the 'incomers' will dispense food from the table.
Sophie is altogether less enamoured with having strangers in the house. They are on the receiving end of her '' What noisy oafs ! " look. This aloofness lasts until a college boy shares some of his pecorino covered gnocchi at lunchtime. Her aloofness quickly vanishes and is replaced by grudging acceptance.
Both PONs are currently engaged in educating the Eurail set in the intricacies of how to throw the furry fox.
So passes a summers day in deepest, deepest France profonde.

It used to take Kendra (former scottie) about 3 days of frequent cheese offerings to accept strangers.
The willingness and skill of a protracted game of catch is the only way to separate friend from foe, in Merlins opinion.
I think I'd warm up to anyone offering me that too! Glad Sophie considers them friends!
We are in the midst of a major kitchen and guest bathroom renovation, which brings sequential hordes of workmen to the house, noise, dust, an chaos. Demolitioners. Electricians. Pumbers. Framers. Dry wallers, Tilers. With each successive batch of folks, JH barks loudly as the doorbell rings, runs to greet them, sniffs, and stays around a bit to see what they are doing. No food involved, just a few scrtches and "Hello Harry's." How to explain the difference? Terrier irrepressible curiosity versus PON reserve? Today is Day 31 of 60. No men in red trousrs though.
Will the PONs be dispensing diplomas on the Eurail set's proficiencies at throw the furry fox? Nicely framed on the bedroom wall, along with pennants and posters, it could come in handy for a future career !
Pah! Throw the furry fox is the red herring. It's really all about getting the visitors to "reward" our duo with food treats. The visitors are being grossly manipulated and are blissfully unaware. Good show Bob and Sophie. .
