Another two weeks

A day of small victories. The supermarket shelves remain stocked, the sun is shining and the family diva remains indomitable in her approach to life. The lawn is cut, the roses pruned and thought is given to painting the wall on the terrace. The garden is alive with bees and bird song. The government has announced a further two week lockdown. This takes us through April 15th. Thank heavens we have a garden.

On our walk past the  village pond Sophie stops and glares at the bullfrogs sunning themselves amid the irises. For once she decides not to chase them into the water. She makes a small grunt of irritation. Sophie is not a dog to hide her emotions.  By the cross roads we see a pig. Sophie has never seen a pig before and is entranced. Our walk comes to a complete halt for five minutes while this new arrival is sized up. Her nose twitches in delight as porcine odours waft in her direction.

The wisteria just starting to come into bloom. Will this be the year when I can get a photo of the peonies and the wisteria in bloom at the same time ? There would be something very French village about that.

As I said. A day of small victories.

I've been waiting for the wisteria! We have a tiny potted wisteria on our terrace. Last year, it never bloomed but this year it has lots of buds. It snowed here today (!) so I am hoping that won't do any damage. That photo of Sophie at the pond today looks like something from Monet - "Giverny with PON"?

Snow ! Have they instituted lockdown yet or are they waiting for better weather ? Hopefully Cherry will be home shortly ?

No lockdown yet, although we are having a kind of "practice lockdown" this weekend, as they were worried about cherry blossom parties. (The snow would have put a stop to that in any event.) March 31 is the end of the fiscal year in Japan, and all new company employees start on April 1. It seems they may be waiting until the paperwork is done to enroll them all for insurance, etc. Sounds crazy but plausible - it's a very bureaucratic country. We're off to visit Cherry in a few minutes and hoping she can come home tomorrow or at least the next day. Thank you for asking.

I love Lisa in Tokyo's observation about 'Giverny with PON', and am looking forward to more in the Monet-style sequence in the coming weeks.
Good to know that the Bolivian president has a sense of humour!
Cheers, Gail.

Your peonies really are lovely, I've always wanted one in pink, I have only red and white.

I went to the grocery store yesterday and it was well stocked, except "paper products" continue to be scarce. I work tomorrow, and may ask if I can take a roll of paper towels. I miss them in my kitchen. Actually, I'm missing a lot of "things" right now.

Such an uplifting post this morning, especially the sight of the wisteria coming into bloom. Each time I see a photo of Sophie by the pond, I wonder whether the coots (I think they were coots) will return to annoy her.

The sky was lovely for you. We still have a foot of snow and it is a rainy day here. We will keep looking for the good in this situation,
