Delayed service.

The post lady seem to have given up coming to the village. She's not been seen here since Saturday.  The Volvo is due to go into the garage on Monday for its annual service. There is an annoying sign on the dashboard that reminds me of this whenever I turn on the ignition. The sign is accompanied by a bell from hell. The sign and the bell also reappear at random moments in the journey. Angus calls the garage to find that they're closed for the duration. Seems the bell from hell will be with us for some time to come.

We've also ordered kibbles for Sophie. These were due to be delivered by courier yesterday. Perhaps they'll show up today ?

The villagers seem to be self isolating with surprising diligence. I catch a glimpse of the builder disappearing into his house. The teenage son of the man with anger management issues can be seeing heading out to the hen hutch for his breakfast eggs as Sophie and her master walk past the pond.  Madame Bay has a view of self isolation that involves children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. These, thankfully, keep her at home.

The weather which was supposed to be cold and wintry remains obdurately bright and sunny. Not a plane to be seen  which presumably means both Toulouse airport and Airbus are shut down.  British Airways are supposedly running a flight to London at five this evening. I shall go out in the garden and watch out for contrails in the sky. 'The Font ' helpfully points out that this might be taken for another sign that I'm turning into my father.

As we pass the chateau the German billionaires maid comes out onto a balcony coughing. Their exodus to the remoteness of deepest deepest France profonde might have been more logically undertaken alone. That is of course the trouble with the 1%. It never dawns on them that they need the 99% to survive.

I hope that Sophie's kibbles arrive. I ordered three big bags of Cherry's prescription food about a month ago, when I realized it is manufactured in the Czech Republic. I suppose it was also a vote of confidence prior to her operation. She is, unfortunately, back in the hospital now with an infection and had an emergency operation on Tuesday to clean it up. When we visited last night, she looked much better than I expected and was very disappointed that she could not come right back home with us, but they say she'll need the intravenous antibiotics for a week or so. So far, so good. Tokyo also now seems to be inching towards a lockdown, but I trust they will understand that veterinary care is an essential service (at least in our household).

Good to know that Cherry was able to receive the treatment she needed, and paws crossed that her kibbles arrive.

Poor poor Cherry. Thanks for letting us know. A PON separated from her family is one of lifes more vexing episodes. PON owners ( and a lot of non-PON owners ) will be thinking of you. This is I find one of the more uplifting aspects of social media. A kind of genuine shared humanity . Haven't had a chance to look into the uplift in Japanese cases although it wasn't unexpected . Spoke to a friend at a large east coast university about the hit caused by the virus. Large institutions have balance sheets and alumni programs that should enable them to survive ( maybe in slimmed down format ) but smaller colleges are going to face some difficult choices.

I join the list of those who was a little dismayed you had to face this with Cherry, but grateful you have been able to access relevant care. Here in the UK, many vets have been forced to close, but the PDSA-related surgeries are at least going to maintain an emergency watch... Sending love to you and of course to our gracious hosts and and to this little community of followers...

Be safe. Be well. Behave. YAM xx

It was warm enough yesterday to open the windows, and right now it's snowing.
I haven't been to the store for 10 days, and my husband was very cross about the selection left in the house, so, figuring driving sleet would deter most shoppers, I ventured to leClerc. Had to wait half an hour, 2 meters from the others, in the glass entry (I would have preferred in the driving sleet...surely it pulls down any atomized germs exhaled by the other waiting shoppers). Certain things still unavailable. Arborio rice. Disinfectants. The selection of ice cream (one needs pleasures) disappointing.
The animal clinic was the only place open in a line of shuttered businesses. Good luck to Cherry. It is a bad time to be sick, even with non-virus things.
On the way home, a red light on the dashboard momentarily flashed "STOP." It turned off immediately so I went on. It was snowing, after all. Really need to get the car tuned up. Another thing that will wait. The kid has an orthodontist appointment on Monday, which I assume will be postponed. What does that do to the teeth realignment?

I had a similar alert with my Golf, impossible to ignore. Our garage mechanic simply turned it off so I dare say there is a you-tube video somewhere showing you how to do it. Mind you, with your car being a Volvo, maybe not.
Self distancing seems to mean different things to different people, sometimes out of ignorance, sometimes denial or belligerence. I find myself getting angry with people who don't get it, putting other people at risk. We will all pay the price for their stupidity, whether in losing someone or simply having to endure this situation for more weeks and months.
Still, at least Spring is here!

I hope you found something your husband will enjoy. It must be maddening to have your life upended again by the virus when it has already been upended in the worst possible way.

Here, in Maryland, the Governor has listed veterinary offices among essential businesses. As you probably know, states are left to carry on with little federal aid or advice. The Governor of Mississippi has declared that "We are not China and will be fine." Dr. Fauci remains visible, the daily briefings are mainly a farce, Governor Cuomo the only informative voice with an actual plan of attack for his state. What a time!1

For the first time The Font used LeClerc Drive. It seems to have worked allowing for substitutions and products at their sell by date. Paper towels , dried pasta and hand gel all waiting. Don't like the sound of snow although there's a decidedly nippy bite in the air tonight on Sophie's last walk du jour. After all of this is over there will be a rush on dentists appointments, doctors visits and eye tests. Keep strong ! Kibbles arrived today but the driver just left them on the road outside - which seems to be the new order of things.

We ordered Andrew's food and it came yesterday. The Songwriter thinks two 32lb bags was excessive. I explain that shipping was free with two bags and not so with one. The thing about having three dogs, each at a different stage of life, is that one has to purchase three different kinds of food. Senior, Adult, and Puppy. We are well-stocked, however.

We have apparently joined the rest of the world--3 confirmed cases. I now know why the Chemist had rearranged display shelving making a walkway complete with arrows to the Hand sanitizer then on to the socially spaced X's until you reached the roped off prescription IN part. Told it would take about 20 minutes and NOT TO WAIT. On return, I went through the whole thing again, but this time, my prescription was brought out sealed in plastic and followed the arrows to the checkout.
