Keeping your powder dry.

'Bonjour' from Sophie who heads out of the front door to find two C-A-T-S walking across the lawn. Our day takes a frenetic turn. The C-A-T-S are through the hedge and over the wall before Sophie gets within 50 yards of them. This in no way reduces the sound and fury of her pursuit. Any villagers who thought of having a Sunday morning lie in will be quietly cursing the inhabitants of The Rickety Old Farmhouse.

At the little supermarket they have now installed wall mounted hand sanitizer dispensers by the front door. Customers are told to clean their hands before entering. The staff ( who are wearing blue face masks ) have instituted a new system.  One of the two cash desks has been closed off. You put your groceries on the first cash desk to the left of the cashier. You then walk through the closed off second desk  before returning to pick up your purchases and pay. This enables staff and purchaser to maintain a healthy 2 metre separation. It also causes some confusion on the part of the regions older inhabitants.

At The Rickety Old Farmhouse Angus has power washed the downstairs terrace and started on the balcony. The grass along the verge outside the house has been cut. Tomorrow he will attack the weeds in the drainage ditch and consider painting the shutters. This lockdown is likely to be extended so there's no point in going wild and doing everything at once. '' The Font '' calls this prevarication. Angus calls it 'keeping your powder dry'.

School closures and 'distancing' don't bother them .These Scottish primary kids have got the right song and attitude: https://twitter.com/DronganPS/status/1240973643728990209

That tweet. So lovely. One can detect the East Ayrshire accents in the school kids' singing.

Happy Sunday,
Considering the twinges, slow and easy sounds about right.
Kisses to Miss Sophie please. XXX

We are hearing rumours of at least 3 months. People think that is to keep us healthy, but really it is to spread out how many are sick at a time to decrease the strain in an already strained health care system.

I keep checking back on you to see how it's going there for you and the Font and Sophie. I think the word you mean is "procrastination," not "prevarication." Procrastination means putting things off til later. I know this because my seventh grade English teacher made me write, "Procrastination is the thief of time," 500 times because I was late turning in my homework. LOL. "Prevarication" means a lie. Stay well over there!

You are absolutely right although there is a hint that Angus may never get round to doing some of the things that are on his to do list. In that respect it may be closer to prevarication !

3 months would seem about right for the first stage. Hopefully summer heat and humidity will then slow its transmission down until the autumn. 3 months in The Rickety Old Farmhouse is doable. 3 months in a flat in London perhaps less so.

It is too bad the US didn't also keep its powder dry when it decided to goose the stock market and the economy with tax cuts for the rich in 2017.
My husband is safely home. A relief. Unable to see anybody but his daughter on his trip. No controls at the airport, and even less security than usual.

I'm so glad to hear the news that your husband is back home with you. I've thought of you so often ever since you commented here about what had happened. I checked your latest post thinking there might be an update but to no avail.

This is wonderful news that he's home. I'm taken aback by the lack of security at the airport. That has the potential to be bad.

We know all about C-A-T-S here.

Love the song, especially the little boy in the front standing like a soldier as around him, kids wiggle and hop, and dance.

That's wonderful that he made it back home rather than being stranded away. Relief must be the understatement of the century. We think about you often as do many visitors to the blog. Strange as it may seem social media has the advantage of showing that care and compassion adjust well to 21st century living.

The Cost Centres have noticed that doctors and nurses are becoming symbols of ‘Thank you for your service’ gratitude. Perhaps this heralds a return to government for and by serious people – the Fauci effect . Who knows ? When all of this is over politics may be reoriented to investment in public goods and services. Stay strong !

Slow and steady keeps the twinges at bay but men aren't good at obeying slow and steady.
