The nicer contender.

Monday morning. Is it my imagination or do the hectic weeks seem to come round every three days ? Sophie is harnessed up and let out of the front door. Two plump pigeons are strutting shamelessly across the lawn. Mayhem ensues as Sophie throws back her head, emits a concrete shredding shriek and chases after them. Ten minutes later she can be found in the orchard glaring at thrushes building a nest in a lime tree. She turns her head and gives me a ' Oh! It's you' look.

No school bus today but we meet the new mayor opening up the church. The tiler won convincingly by a 48-12 margin. By far the nicer of the two contenders. A sensible forty something man who has time on his hands now his eldest son has headed off to university. He observes that the village , which is never busy, has suddenly started to attract car loads of Toulousians who come out for a days walking in the fresh air well away from other humans.

Usually there are a web of contrails in the sky. The US inbound flights heading to Milan and Barcelona coming in one direction, the first flights from Italy and Switzerland heading in the other. Today, we see just two planes. Travellers clearly aren't buying the 'Relax. We're doing great ' line.

The snow covered mountains just visible. Although they must be 100 miles away they rise straight up from the plain. I guess the Rockies do the same thing. The sight still makes me stop and look in amazement.

So starts a Monday morning in a small French village with a Polish Lowland Sheepdog .

The choir have been sent home from Beauvoir  but this is how things went down on Sunday . Four singers and everyone well separated plus camera angles that obscure the empty pews :  https://youtu.be/aUGZLwnLhUU?t=5681

How heartening to learn that in some elections at least, having a pleasant character appears to be a factor in getting voted in.

Very impressed by your veterinarian, and how well thought out his precautionary practices seem. Well done! Take care at the ROF......as we all must do. From the sunny Westcoast of Canada.

Sounds like the new mayor will be a good choice and the old mayor can sit back and relax now. will the bakeries close? No more croissants every morning?

It sounds as though your former mayor can feel comfortable in handing off his duties to the tiler. It will be interesting to read how things may change under the new regime - decorations at the war monument and so on. It looks so beautiful and springy in your photos - they make it hard to imagine anything bad is happening anywhere. I also read the note from your vet with interest. It hasn't happened here yet, but this is exactly why I finally got up the courage to push through with Cherry's operation, while it was still possible. Cherry continues to recover uneventfully, with no apparent twinges. Speaking of twinges, I hope that the restrictions on travel are not causing you any issues.

It's good to know that the right man won the election. Reassuring to know that the village will continue in good hands. Will he come to borrow your ladders - or has he got his own?
The vet is something I was wondering about, as the Processionary caterpillars are on the march here. I've not heard anything from mine yet, and Inca is due for an annual shot at the beginning of April. The whole area is on lockdown now, and I'm told there are road blocks everywhere, with only emergency vehicles and those with legitimate reasons, allowed through. We may have to delay the vet visit, or I'll need to smuggle her in!

We got the candidate of our choice, plus almost his entire team, most of whom we know well and like. The only three other members of the new council will be the leaders of the other two lists and the deputy of one of those, also all good people. I hope they do well and don't get too frustrated.

A change here today. The staff at the little supermarket wearing masks and being decidedly unhelpful. At the check out a heated argument between an old lady of the ' I don't know what all the fuss is about ' school and an equally senior lady from the ' Don't be so selfish' camp.

Glad you've got a nice new mayor. Not sure about ours - there was no other contender. So only time will tell. I envy you your view of the Pyrenees. I wonder if the view is a reflection of the drop in pollution as we come to a standstill? Happened in China. Leclerc heaving first thing this morning with panic buyers and not a single packet of pasta to be had. Stay safe. Stay well. All of you.

Great news about Cherry. It was a good idea to get it done now. I'd like to believe the Japanese transmission rate numbers but ....

Surprised the church can ope, but I guess in such a small community. The province of Quebec has stopped all religious services, not sure if they have closed the churches yet. Almost everything is closed now.

Wonder if the new mayor has been provided with an instruction booklet that states. If needing, ladder, wine, place to hold meetings. etc...see Angus. lol!
