The government shipment.

The rain is unrelenting. Sophie heads off on walks. Each time she returns sodden and happy. Old sheets are spread out to soak up some of the moisture. The dryer works overtime . PON heaven.

Sophie has learnt to use the ramp which makes getting a sodden dog in and out of the car easier .

Madame Bay stops by for a cup of coffee. There are rumours that the government is going to limit the number of people allowed access to supermarkets at any given time. This may, or may not be, true. It does reflect the level of uncertainty that has crept into even the quietest corners of France profonde. We take her to the frozen foods store so she can stock up the freezer.

Vietnameses pancakes with prawns attract Angus. On our way back we see the mayor. He's waiting at the town hall for a delivery of face masks and hand cleaner. The government has stipulated that for this months municipal elections all town halls must be stocked with hand gel and the polling staff issued with face masks. This might be considered 'overkill' in our little commune of 67 souls, two of whom aren't allowed to vote by dint of Brexit. 'The Font' promises to show the mayor how to use the sanitizing gel.

Not so unusual ? The birds here can easily predict the time between Sophie leaving the front door and her arriving at the bird feeder : https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/new-zealand-birds-show-humanlike-ability-make-predictions

Frozen yakitori and onigiri! People here in Japan would be amazed. Meanwhile, I am very attracted by the Vietnamese ravioli. Needless to say, I haven't seen any of these in our local Picard. I also haven't seen any restrictions yet on the number of people in supermarkets, but yesterday they did post signs in the lobby of the building where I work asking that people not crowd into the elevators.

To start with people here were unconcerned. China is a long way away. However, the outbreak in Italy is clearly out of control .... and next door. There has been a decided toughening up in the governments efforts to contain things . The price of hand gel is now controlled and all medical mask stocks have been seized by the government for the health service.

Having had interactions with cockatoos, kookaburras, magpies and currawongs in OZ which proved to me that birds do work things out, I am not surprised at all by that study! YAM xx

The frozen foods pictures remind me that out of a crisis, there is someone always able to profit.

I wonder how many people would be interested in frozen Vietnamese food? Our supermarket was low on the old toilet paper tonight. I must admit to having filled the cupboards with cans of soup, rice and noodles the past few weeks, buying a little extra each night to put away.

We live just a few miles away from the senior living place with the outbreak of the virus - Kirkland Washington near Seattle. There was a run on food and supplies this past weekend and clerks were madly trying to restock. Yesterday, Wednesday, we went to several stores including Costco - lots of parking and not many shoppers. The fire station that responded to the center is under quarantine and lots of people at our gym have frozen their accounts there. Fear really motivates people.

just got more information - the school district has closed the schools and instead will have on-line classes. Evidently they have been preparing for this anyway for students that couldn't physically attend for other reasons. The teachers had a workshop on using it earlier.

I heard an interview with a guy in quarantine with the virus. He had been on the cruise ship that was held in Yokohama and was eventually med-evacked to Omaha. He and his wife tested positive on the airplane; neither had a fever. He never had a fever, in fact, just a cough that, on a scale of 1 to 5 he rated as a 1. This is how things spread--he doesn't feel sick at all and were it not for the test would not have been quarantined. And for the vast majority of people, catching the virus is no big deal. It's the sick and elderly who are at risk.
Another thing on the report: wear a mask if you're sick, to not spray germs all over. But if you aren't sick, a mask doesn't change much unless you're a medical worker, in close contact with someone sick.
Was just at the supermarket and now regret not stocking up better.

The frozen food pictures look interesting--but somehow the food within usually doesn't live up to them. (Even way out here in the middle of nowhere, there is a scarcity of toilet paper. However, apparently the toilet paper factories are humming and keeping the economy floating.)
