A longer walk.

What a difference a week makes. Warm summer nights suddenly replaced by non-stop downpours and temperatures that would make any Hebridean feel at home. The central heating is switched on. It makes a banging noise not unlike the noise made by the AMC Pacer that Angus and 'The Font' attempted to drive across America in when they were impoverished students. The noise soon stops.

Into the newsagent to buy the local paper. The shop is quiet. As I get to the counter to pay three hunters, without masks, come and stand behind me. They are in the midst of a lengthy and loud conversation. As I turn to see what the noise is one of the men has a coughing fit. He doesn't think to cover his mouth. A reminder that there are a lot of folks out there who just don't get it. No wonder case numbers here in France are soaring. French hunters, it has to be said, are a particularly arrogant breed. Angus is incensed enough to say something. They look surprised but unrepentant. ' We don't need to wear masks. We live here'.  The inference being that I'm not local.

The wind whipping the water out of the gutters. What a morning. Angus gets soaked. While he changes his shoes and trousers Sophie, who has been towelled dry,  makes it plain she's ready to head off for a longer walk.

Oh my goodness, an AMC Pacer, a car I haven't thought of in years and years - our version of the starving graduate student beater car was a Chevy Chevette. The headline alone on that first link is one for the ages. As to the second,I never believe anyone who says they need only four hours of sleep, and here's the proof. Cherry's just back from her first trip to the groomers' since we let them clip her last spring, so we've got a fluffy white dog for at least the next few days (hours?). It's been rainy and windy all week in Tokyo as well thanks to a typhoon hanging around off the coast, but it's moved on now so we should have a few sunny days.

The contrast between 'summer' weather and autumn weather in Northern Scotland is more subtle than in the south of France!
I love the idea of truffle fancying bonobos.

Angus' experience with the hunters is one reason the YAMster has still yet to enter any shop hereabouts. And that restrictions are slowly being reset... YAM xx

We are blessed to live in an area where people wear masks (maybe because of threat of fine) and they are staying home when told (again, the $5000 a day fine may help with this). However, still the numbers climb. What will it take to get people to take it seriously? Canadian thanksgiving is the second Monday in October, I hate to think what things will be like 10 days later. I am currently in self isolation so I can spend time with my medically fragile father.

I hate those coughing hunters. They are one of the reasons that Covid will drag on.

I think there are a lot of us that have a memory of an AMC Pacer that reminds us of a time that was maybe when our lives were a little less complicated. Even thought they felt complicated at the time!

And don't get me started on the non-mask wearers.... When did I become my Mother? :-)
