Angus is startled to see that there were 86,000 cases of the virus reported in France yesterday. That's 25,000 up on the day before. What's going on ? Once upon a time I used to start the day by looking at the weather forecast. Now the first thing I do is look at the number of new cases. Oddly, the French media seem to be quiet on the rise in the numbers. The epicentre seems to have moved from Paris to Lyon, the second biggest city. Around here all the summer houses owned by folks from Paris and Bordeaux have cars in their drives and smoke wafting from their chimneys. Their owners are in residence and will probably be here until the New Year.
A goodish hair day for Sophie who starts her morning looking vaguely like a PON that 's been groomed. Not well groomed. Just groomed.
By the time we've followed a tractor down the ox track ....
..... and been for a drink at the stream ...
.... she's looking rather less well groomed and more like she's never been near a brush in her life. Back at The Rickety Old Farmhouse Angus attempts to comb some twigs out of the long fur on her ears. The look on her face lets me know exactly what she thinks of this. PONs, as a breed, are absolutely hopeless at hiding their feelings. The drooping tail is also a give away.

Scary numbers - I feel for the French medical workers. It must be hard work for them.
Miss Sophie I feel the same. My hair looks presentable as I leave home, and by the time I have arrived after a 30 minute walk I'm looking rough too.
That daily number of new Covid cases is shocking, much higher per capita than the already shockingly high numbers in the US. I hope the new restrictions will be effective in getting the virus under control. Today is a day for celebrating the US election results - it's been a very long and painful four years - but your post is a reminder of all the work there is to be done. Cherry sympathizes with Sophie regarding your cruel attempts at grooming. We are back in Tokyo today, but Cherry has done her best to bring the lawn back with her.
Back so soon ? Cherry must have enjoyed that soft grass !
Sophie commiserates but will put money on your not having twigs in your hair after a 30 minute walk.
A new weather forecast in Aberdeen. On a morning when thick clouds lower over the city, in Duthie Park we encounter Rusty the grumpy cairn terrier, and his owner, an elderly gentleman much given to gnomic utterances in Doric dialect. To my greeting of "dreary day, isn't it?" he responds "Nae lass, it cannae be dreary, we've voted Trump oot!" Interesting that 'we', an indicator of how it's not just Americans who feel ownership of the election result.
When we had a farm that grew raspberries our very Doric farm manager would announce ' I'm just awa' fur a dander doon the dreels'.
I was thinking about Cherry yesterday with her new delight in the discovery of interesting smells on the lawn. Now that her sight is failing, I wonder if her olafactory senses have been heightened in order to compensate
I was delighted to read yesterday that there will once again be canines occupying the White House, the Bidens two German Shepherds appropriately named Champ and Major.
Poor Sophie - how she suffers for her appearance, but she should take heart that she hasn't been given a bath!
Yes, we're pleased to read that there will be two dogs in the White House - even if they aren't PONs, WFT's or Labradors!
Champ, too?!? It just keeps getting better!
I also check the numbers first thing every day. Canada has been only a few thousand a day fortunately. Stay safe.
The number of cases in the US is not getting any better here either - And Trump could care less, and now his Chief of Staff is positive, but didn't Trump say that he's immune?
But our weather has certainly been perfect here this past weekend - I think the political news is the reason! :-)
