Scotch Dinner.

I'd like to say the village was witness to a day of high drama but this wasn't the case. In the absence of passing traffic it remains eerily quiet. A second hen has joined the one that escaped from the anger management mans garden. The two escapees peck, contentedly, away at grubs on the village green.  The hens  presence and the discovery that the Belgian lady is looking after three bulldogs for a couple who have returned to Bruges for the lockdown, marks the emotional high point of the family divas day.

Sophie and her master sit on the storm drain, discuss Nagorno-Karabakh and watch as a tractor comes and starts to plough the field behind us. The builder glides past in his new Mercedes electric van. For some reason he decides to stop and inform me ' Don't worry about a thing M'Ongoose. My friend at the tax office says things will be back to normal in two weeks'.  Having imparted this life affirming news he glides off before I can ask him when he's going to start digging the foundations for the pergola..

Loic shows up at the house again. He has brought with him a form for my signature. It stipulates that ' we as employers require his presence'.  This allows him to be out and about during lockdown.  The matron has asked if she could drop off two of Loics friends to blow leaves with him on Friday morning. I have the feeling she's desperate to find ways of keeping her charges busy.

The abnormally warm spell is coming to a close. We use the last of the 20 degree days to give Sophie a bath. She accepts her fate stoically. A medium sized crunchy carrot fresh out of the crisper helps her accept the days vicissitudes.

After the 'event' she positions herself on an absorbent dog blanket at the front door and basks in the November sunshine.

Was a time when restaurants sold themselves on food or service. This one advertises itself as the 'safest dining in town '. It is having a dinner with Angus's favourite tipple . Maybe they'll do another Macallan Scotch Dinner next year ?:https://www.thevault555.com/

Sophie looks especially lovely today, and also well-satisfied - lockdown clearly agrees with her if not with her humans. And now we all have something to look forward to when Loic's friends arrive on Friday. It's a very kind thing you do. I very much appreciated the panda clip. I read somewhere that 55% of Americans polled described this November 3 as the most stressful day of their lives. Personally, I believe that all will be well so long as my son makes it to the polls in Ohio tomorrow. He has had trouble with his registration because the authorities keep misreading/misspelling his Japanese name, but hopefully he'll be able to persuade them to let him vote - it seems kind of emblematic of this election season.

The election day advice is without doubt excellent. A bottle of Macallan might be just the thing to see us through the next few days, with or without an accompanying meal.

Angus will be following events with a bottle of 50 year old Macallan at hand

Good luck with your sons voting. Ohio is a state to watch.

No chance that amongst Loic's friends there is a retired builder or two, just desperate to dig foundations for a pergola? It would be fun to see the antics on Friday when Loic brings two of his friends with him. Will they have a leaf blower each - or take turns? The big question - will they bring sausages or biscuits!

It says something that the two words which caught my attention the greatest in todays post were 'November' and 'sunshine'. Side by side. Crikey. YAM xx

Ah, yes ! That November to March stretch of the year where the cloud lays piled high over Scotland.

They may or may not get a go on the garden tractor.

Angus, I'd like to think you not only have a bottle of 50-year-old whiskey at hand, but you open it and savour every sip (whatever time of day it is in France!) while following the news hoping for a good result (or commiserating), as drinking Macallan and the USA voting for the best President and party to lead America forward come down to the same old phrase "If not now, when?". After the events of 2020, so far, now is the time to drink good whiskey!
