The Old Farmer is up and about early. He's not sleeping and not eating. He's still weepy. Today he's setting off in the venerable and much loved Mercedes to the scattering of his lady friends ashes in the crematoriums garden of memory. It seems he wanted to bring the ashes home but as he's not a relation this request was denied. ' People might have been jealous if I'd been given them so maybe it's for the best '. Who else might have wanted them is left unexplained.
Sophie is loaded into the back of the car for the morning trip to the bakers for curly croissant ends. She makes it clear that walks in damp conditions can take it out of a girl. The family diva settles down in the back and catches up on her rest. By the time we get to the bakers for curly croissant ends her batteries are fully recharged.
This looks practical but would it work with a long haired dog ? :https://ruffandtumbledogcoats.com/products/christmas-limited-edition-drying-coat-2021?variant=40984689377445
Despite having the chance to drink fresh water from the stream ( or water from a bowl at home ) Sophie demonstrates a preference for having a long lazy slurp from a muddy puddle. The farmer has just driven through the puddle in his tractor so the sediment has been stirred up. She carefully positions herself so that all her paws are dry and out of the water before starting.

How to console the Old Farmer? Just to be there for him is at least something. The closing phase of life contains so much that is unavoidably sad. Lucky Sophie, who is cheered up so readily by a curly croissant end.
When the lady friend was around Spring was always in the air and the motor home was kept ready for trips to sunny places. Now his plans for jaunts to sunny places have suddenly gone.
At some stage, would it be appropriate for you and the Font to help TOF select a lovely rose (e.g. there are roses named "Loving Memory") or nice tree to plant on his property or near the church, for TOF to tend to (with your help) for him to mark, honor and remember of the good times he and his girlfriend shared?
The loss of the Old Farmer's lady friend, and the manner in which he found her, is so recent that he must still be reeling from shock. Now is the time he needs the support of good friends like yourselves, and the old Mayor. If Madame Bay is still in charge, the ladies of the Byways Committee, they will surely keep any eye on him too. Planting a rose or a tree is such a lovely idea.
Curly croissant ends - 12/10 from Sophie?
Grieving is complicated, and as we get older, it each loss hits close to home. If only Sophie could tell us if water tastes better all stirred up

A few of us are having similar thoughts about a planting of some description... YAM xx
Catching up today and very sad to learn of the passing of the Old Farmer's lady friend. I wish he might have been spared this loss. Wet but mild sounds very nice just now; a very chilly day on the Northern California coast here.
