Doughty performance

This morning we will be heading down to the airport to pick up 'The Font'.

'The Font' has been in London staying at a very trendy hotel in Marylebone. This is the sort of hotel where the staff all wear black silk 'Mao' uniforms and exude an uber cool attitude. Check in is delayed due to an electrical fault in the room. It isn't until it gets dark that the 'problem' resurfaces. The room has a motion detector that turns on a number of small lights set into the floor to guide the occupant from the bed to the bathroom. This is a very clever idea that prevents stubbed toes. However, the overly sensitive motion detector springs into life every time 'The Font' moves. A wiggle of the toes or a movement of a pillow and the floor lights come on. This does not make for uninterrupted sleep. There is also a motion sensor in the bathroom which switches itself on and off at random intervals through the night .  'The Font' closes the bathroom door to block out this additional source of  light.

Sophie is aware that our morning croissant routine seems to be in jeopardy.

She observes my actions closely.

While I bring the big car up to the front door she copes with the disappointment of a croissant free morning by having a karma inducing nap. I promise her that she will get a Starbucks croissant when we get to the arrivals terminal. This puts a spring in her step.

Watching this doughty performance by the UK's representative to the UN there can be no doubting why half of Britains ambassadors are womenhttps://twitter.com/BWoodward_UN/status/1503912574630477829

The Marylebone Hotel room sounds a nightmare! I'm wondering what breed of dogs were used in the self-awareness research. I'm not at all sure dear Bertie would have figured it out.
Cheers, Gail.
PS Well done our ambassador to the UN.

Is the Starbucks croissant better than no croissant at all? Coupled with the entertainment of the sliding doors at Toulouse Airport, and 'The Font' returning home, is this shaping up to be another best day ever?
Agree with Gail, how annoying those lights must be - surely there must have been complaints? Technology a step too far. I have a similar problem with the motion sensors for the burglar alarm. Every time I turn over in bed, it flashes on and illuminates the room with a ghastly green glow. It happens when Inca moves about in her bed too!

Has anyone mentioned, that is a wonderful wall of books? (Until you move them all.) Bill Gates told a story, when he moved into the big house on the lake he had a TV built in that rose out of the floor in the bedroom. Shortly after he moved in it wouldn't shut off, or retract into the floor one night. After trying every thing he could, he put a blanket over it, and went to sleep. Sometimes the simple solution is needed for the complex tech. Oh, ending the seasonal time change would be WONDERFUL.

I trust Sophie's airport visit has gone well... as for that hotel, I'd've been demanding another room - or finding a B&B. YAM xx

There is some controversy about whether DST or Standard time would be better. The sleep experts favor Standard time. What is interesting is how this managed to be passed in the Senate, which currently is dysfunctional. There was an interesting article about how many of the senators did not know the vote was coming up because their staff did not tell them.

Thanks for the link. I'm guessing for a country spanning so many time zones this would have been quite a controversial thing.
