Promotion

A hearty good morning from Sophie who woke at 1:06 am to let the world know that two C-A-T-S were canoodling in the garden outside the front door. She maintains her state of alarm until Angus puts on a dressing gown and wanders down to reassure her that all is well. She then falls into a deep, and from her perspective  well deserved, slumber.

The old mayor is at the front gate bright and early. ' M'Ongoose. I have news for you '.  Last night the village council discussed the church. The older members complained that the church wasn't being opened to let visitors see the restored frescoes. The younger members wondered who exactly these fresco visitors might be. They also wondered who was going to have the time to open and close the church.

A solution was at hand. The retired head master has observed that Angus walks Sophie through the village at ten every morning and again at four in the afternoon. A vote was taken and it was unanimously decided that , despite being foreign, and quite probably a bit simple, the dog walking man could be entrusted with the church door unlocking and locking.

In Anglo-Saxon countries you might have been consulted before such a weighty honour was bestowed.

It seems churlish to say that this a tedious task I could well do without. However, what's the point of living abroad if you can't be useful to the natives ?

The old mayor watches me lock and unlock the door five times to make sure it's within my skill range. He also shows me how to operate the light switch in the porch. I can also turn on the light to his satisfaction.

'If you have any problems you can call me'. With that he's off.

'The Font' delphically wonders if the weight of all this new found responsibility will stop Angus from replacing the bulb in the bathroom that's been on the things to do list for the last week .

At least Angus is unlikely to lose the church key, or forget what it's for.
Will return for a proper read of the Doggerland link later - such a fascinating topic.

We saw a TV program recently on Doggerland, and how and when it was inundated. It was a really great documentary.

Thank you Angus, you've started my day by making me laugh! So you and Sophie are keepers of the key! I hope that you conveyed your extreme pleasure at such a heady responsibility? I also hope you are inundated with fresco visitors (well, half a dozen anyway) to make your promotion worthwhile.
Oh, and will there be Jaffa cakes for your furry assistant?

Now I'm curious what would get you unelected.

Leaving the porch light on ?

I misread Yam's comment to say "however undenominally"!

The road on the left mural looks like a road that you and Sophie have strolled. Congratulations on your promotion!
