Imperfect.

Sophie greets the farmers dogs. They are very pleased to see her.  They would spend more time with her but she wanders off to smell the tractor tyres. A girl has her priorities.

Then it's off to the market town and the trendy modern bakers. The young woman behind the counter greets me with Eliza Doolittle English. ' Moanin yewir Lordsheep. Wot can I gets yewz toodays ?' This is mildly grating. I smile. Today we get given two croissants. They're straight out of the oven and are apparently imperfect. They taste better than usual. Why they are considered imperfect is beyond me but I'm not going to complain. Nor is Sophie who thinks we should get two croissants every morning. Her tail goes into hyper-wag mode. The croissants get  8.5/10.

We detour to the greengrocers. The first fresh peas of the season. They're puny things. More pod than pea. Maybe next week ?

We do however rejoice in the arrival of the first of the years local grown strawberries.

Angus is an early bird. 'The Font' less so. https://www.edisonresearch.com/wake-me-up-series-2/

Do dog bloggers fall in this category ? The guy who writes 8 book reviews a day probably :https://www.reddit.com/r/slatestarcodex/comments/9rvroo/most_of_what_you_read_on_the_internet_is_written/

Strawberries already? Wonderful. Thia early bird is trying to decide whether she's prefer and 8.5/10 croissant or some of those strawberries to top her breakfast cereal this morning. Both, probably.

Oh wow, Sophie! TWO 8.5/10 croissants - yes, you should have two every day - how else are you going to be able to compare them?
We've had strawberries for some time now, but they are not what you'd call flavoursome. Most are weak, watery and hard, although they look as inviting as those in your photo. I buy a punnet occasionally to see if they've improved but they rarely have. My feeling is that they are brought in for the tourists who snap them up, but I doubt they come back for seconds.

Beautiful strawberries! Japanese strawberries are about 100X better than what we usually find in the US, so I would very much like to try French strawberries sometime.

I wonder whether the wakeup times have anything to do with time zones. Where I grew up, most people started work at 8. The movie "9 to 5" was greeted with a reaction of "oh, those lazy New Yorkers, rolling into work at 9." It seems that people in Carcassonne mostly start around 10. A relative who works in a factory in the north has a week 6 am-2 pm, followed by a week 2 pm-10 pm and a week 10 pm-6 am, then the cycle repeats. It seems inhumane.

In general, you have beautiful-looking (and mostly tasty, I assume) vegetables and fruit. Here in SE USA, the vegetables available in stores (not considering home-grown) is relatively mediocre, and during this pandemic, limited and old. New Hampshire had wonderful vegetables and fruits, and, of course, the Bay Area and D.C. had just about everything.

Those strawberries look amazing! So looking forward to the freshly picked, local strawberry season where they will be juicy and bursting with flavor. The ones in the store right now are flavorless and hard as rocks.
