Spring has sprung.

Bonjour ! Spring is here. It's a warm and sunny morning.

Our morning tour of the village takes us past the 16th century pottery kiln and what remains of the village ramparts and the pond. Anger Management Man is getting into his car on his way to work. He looks grumpy. We nod and pass in silence. His relationship with the German billionaires builder seems headed for the courts .... again.  Sophie watches a moorhen head off into the shrubs at high speed. For some reason the PONette has a fascination with all things that live on the water.
We are out of saffron. It is difficult to get in France. 'The Font' finds this supplier :

Have you and 'The Font' ever considered growing your own saffron?

The boabab tree photos are stunning. How many tree hugger would it take to encircle the one in the article's first photo?
I prescribe the Anger Management Man a few moments contemplating the tranquil springtime beauty of scene beside the village pond. Works for me, anyway!
Cheers, Gail.
PS Nobby doesn't do tranquil, first thing in the morning, I'm learning...

No croissant ratings yet today? We had hoped to read (with envy) of a constant 9.3/10.
It seems the sun isn't making it over the Pyrenees! Normally we'd wake to endless sunshine, but for the majority of the last three months we've had rain, rain and more rain! However we're assured that it's quite possible there won't be water shortage this summer! Hooray! Just hope this isn't the new normal.
Haven't bought saffron for years - I think the last jar is mouldering in the back of a cupboard somewhere.

As featured on Gardeners World last week - safflower. You might like to grow some in the garden, as it can be used in cooking. https://www.kingsseeds.com/Products/Herb-Seeds/Safflower/SAFFLOWER-FALSE-SAFFRON-Carthamus-tinctorius-A

Gail,
I remember that a new puppy was akin to having a new baby - routine out of the window!

Your mention of saffron reminds me of a patient we had in our office awhile back. She was very nervous about being at the dentist. But she held in her hand, a small cloth bag and inside was saffron. She told us that "saffron will put a smile on your face and make you laugh," telling us that it was folklore from her native Iran. She held it up to her face several times during the procedure, and it seemed to have worked for her, she was very relaxed and happy enough when we were done. Who knew?

Thank you for the baobab link. I have a game, called bao, played in East Africa, with baobab seeds. You might remember from "Le Petit Prince" that these huge trees have tiny seeds.
Thank you also for the saffron link. I have bought some from the local Turkish-run grocery, where it's kept behind the cash register along with equally expensive pine nuts.

Saffron is grown in the Touraine, but it may be that the harvest is so small that it is all sold locally.
