Joy is not in things, it is in us.

The first frost of the winter. Sophie rushes out of the front door into the garden with a whoop of delight. She's soon playing on the lawn, her chin down on the icy grass, back legs powering her backwards and forwards like a small canine snow plough. A quart of happiness in a pint pot.

Perhaps it's the frost but the hole on the driveway is left untouched. This would be considered a victory of sorts were it not for the fact that the demonic duo's attention has now turned to the recently planted rose hedge. Sophie excavates while Bob removes the rose bushes and drags them off to secret, furtive, places. Bob, who is apprehended with a rose bush in his mouth, gets the blame. Sophie ( muzzle covered in soil ) gives us her best " I cannot tell a lie. It was Bob that did it " look.

The key requirement for looking after PON siblings ? Eyes in the back of your head.

Joy is in all of us... we just forgot about it sometimes. Thats why we have dogs.. they remind us to play every single day.

Pictures of innocence, the pair of them!

That's the good thing about youngsters. They eventually get bored with their favourite mischief and move on to another one !!

I wonder if they plan these little escapades in advance ... or just work it out ... and their respective roles ... on the spur of the moment!?!

Maybe the hole wasn't so bad after all. Is there hope for the rose bushes?
Perhaps you could create a PON
play area. Great piles of sterilized
sand for digging, large tree branches
for climbing, smaller ones for
gnawing and new items added
regularly to hold interest; might that do?

Oh oh the demonic duo are being very naughty.....rose bushes are out of bounds if they don't want to make the "font" angry.
You may have to pot a few of the bushes to save them.
I can't help but laugh when I see the two of them working in tandem....one excavating and one moving the bushes.....
We have a company here and there slogan is "We move the earth to please"...maybe I should send them Sophie and Bob's resumes.

That should be "and their slogan" above.

I laughed out loud at the image of Sophie pulling off the angelic look!

They're better than any exercise DVD, between the baths, filling in holes, chasing dogs with stolen rose bushes, replanting said rose bushes, building PON proof fencing you must be "as fit as a butcher's dog!" or exhausted ?

Exhausted sums it up pretty well.

They need a job. Maybe you could get them some sheep to play with.

Once a digger dog, always a digger dog, I am suspecting, given that Merlin is now 7 and showing no signs of diminishing enthusiasm.
He has been extremely helpful recently at de-stabilising the elder saplings that have sprouted in our courtyard, during our absence.

Yes, it's incredible - mine have literally eaten to the ground rose bushes I couldn't even touch due to the huge thorns. I have noticed they have trouble eating afterwards :)
